Application for Cambridge

I was wondering what else I needed to have a chance of getting into Cambridge. I live in Canada, and I'm currently in grade 10.

I'm in full pre-IB, and plan to continue to get my IB Diploma in grade 12, along with my French Immersion Certificate (from full FI which I've been in since grade 6), and I get straight A's. I'm also part of a club in which I volunteer at different things around the city, such as city clean-up, and soup kitchen. I also play violin.

I also plan to do more extra curricular activities in the future, such as the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, and Junior Achievement.

I want to study Physics after high school, and I'm not sure of what other things I can do to better my chances at getting accepted. I also haven't found any extra curricular activities which are mainly for Physics, which would help my application.

For Physics, you can work on labs or take your own initiative to develop some kind of activity related to that. A peer of mine started a channel in YouTube which he frequently updated with videorecordings of experiments he tried at home. His videos quickly became a reference to other students in the school.

As for the Cambridge application, do you have A-levels in Canada?

I’m applying to Cambridge for Natural Sciences this fall under the IB program. They don’t seem to care in the slightest about what you do in your free time unless it is related to your chosen field of study so if it’s your first choice, you might want to narrow your extracurricular focus.

^Are you looking at Cambridge in UK or Cambridge in Massachusetts? I’m confused now.

I’m looking at Cambridge in the UK. To my knowledge, we don’t have A-levels in Canada. At my school, they offer IB classes (and AP exams if I want to take them), which are the most advanced classes.

Well, you’re doing well so far since you’re in 10th grade. Find an activity related to Physics and you should be good when the time comes.

SandroRodrigues: Cambridge in Mass usually called Harvard or MIT  Cambridge only goes for Cambridge University…:)

Regarding the original question> indeed, Oxbridge don’t care much with extracurricular stuff - but, if you can get into an interview, there it will count. See, you need perfect grades to get an interview(s), and do the test, but you must to show something extraordinary on the interview. Obviously, if you participated in a kitting class, that don’t count much, but something related to physics, can boost your chances of getting in. But for undergraduate admissions, you must choose a college, as your application targets the college at first, and the university accept their choices.

Thanks for the replies! I’ll be sure to follow all the great advice. :)
