Application horror stories

ANYONE ELSE HERE ABOUT TO SCREAM IN FRUSTRATION?!?!?!

Our internet, phones and printer are currently down. It took us no less then 2 1/2 hours (5 am - 7:30 am) to print 3, count them, 3 measly documents to get them in the mail today. My sister was kind enough to be late for class by leaving 20 minutes after the normal time so that I could at least get it printed off. Still don't have them in the pretty folders or anything, just hope that Mom has time to do that before she has to leave crosses fingers
Because it took so long, I didn't have time to tweak everything either.

Considers pulling hair out
reconsiders, as it would have no effect on the applications
considers that it might make me feel better
assures self that it would only regret it later
agrees with self

Okay, we are very calm now. Seriously, anyone else finding these a pain in the neck?

lol :D I
m sorry i just can
t keep myself.....
well i totally know what you mean.i hate the application process! i feel lost in those documents too :(

its almost 1am here and I'm starting to panick. My essays are nowhere near as good as they should be. I have my gf, her sis, her friend, and one my mates here all helping me with the essay.

Still I'm behind schedule ... :( not to mention rugby training tommorrow :( :(

Aberine - LOL, go ahead and laugh, if we can't laugh at ourselves what can we laugh at :D

Don't mention essays... :p

I can't get started with writing those essays! the topics are like the most uninspiring thing in the world.... why are you so much in a hurry??? most unis deadlines are in the end of december. is there any specific reason? ED????

Yes- ED ... almost sends a shiver down my spine ...

yuckkks! if i could apply for ED i`d be enthusiastic though! good luck!

As I haven't started doing mine yet, how long do you guys spend roughly on one particular application? Do you find yourselves re-using material from one to make another easier or do you try and be original for each and every submission?

BTW, SweetestSith, gl with your application!

I've spent hundreds of hours on mine, from ACT/SAT time to essays, supplements, creative writing samples, transcripts, trying to get my teachers to send their letters, blah I'm probably unique though, don't let me scare you off :D

I'm really only applying to Princeton for now, but if I end up doing some other schools I'll probably recycle stuff...

Thanks!

you can
t be original ! you have to be you! if you try to be different they may have looked for you and because u pretended you
ll miss the chance. this would be very stupid. in short-write the same thing everywhere.

wow, you certainly seem to have put in the hard yards... What about excluding SAT/ACT prep, and simply considering your application, it couldn't be more than 10 hours could it? anxious

Depends on who you are and how nitpicky you are over your essays and junk, the essays and my short stories (once you cut out test prep time) really took the bulk of my time.

Depends also on your school situation, I have to basically get information from 3 schools. (One of which is homeschool, hence I have to make a transcript and write out course descriptions and junk).

Also depends on your home life, between the internet junk (which has been going on since Aug) and other stuff, I'm doing it myself, with very little parental help (which is NOT their fault, I am not blaming them, they do have alot of stuff going on, just wish financial aid wasn't such a mess :p) it's taking awhile...

In general, I'm sure it is not designed to be as much of a pain as it has been for me :p Good luck with your app!

Wow that entire post sounds whiny, sorry all, lol.

hmm, unfortunately (it can be a positive as well when you don't take into account sleep deprivation and the like...) I am nitpicky like you. I doubt my parents will be helping me either... I'm just hoping that they don't take more than 10 hours each, as I have EIGHT to do, and I sort of want to enjoy my freedom when I complete high school once and for all (I finish my final exams Nov 18th)..

Thanks for the well wishes anyway, and sorry about rambling on (its late and i'm writing countless revision pages on gender, class, narrative structure, etc.. for lit).

Why do you have eight essays? Or is that just applications?

Congrats about the graduation, best of luck!!!

I have 8 individual applications!! (Stanford alone has around 6 essays, 2 long, 4 short)

Look of horror and pity Best of luck to you, hopefully you can recycle a few!!! 8 apps is alot...

If you need any help PM me!

my horror story? finished long and short a few days ago, still have 1 short left which i have been thinking baout ofr 2 days and can't come up with anything! forcing myself to sit in front of the com and think of something now and in the next 6 hours, before daybreak!

I won't start my EC and summer essay till I've finished this one either, but, fully exploiting time difference, I have 30 hours. thats short. Argh!

And what else can go wrong?

I opened up my email to work on my essays (work on them at school and send to myself in attatched file) and guess what? IT DIDN'T ATTATCH!!! I knew that they periodically dump all the files on the comp lab files, and I wasn't sure if that did it automatically each night. So, as soon as early class finished this AM I was running to the lab. Luckily, it was still there (of course I had to disturb this poor girl to get it, as she was on the computer I was using, but oh well).

now you can chill the f out and work on your back up apps...
