Application Major

AdmissionsDaniel, on the JHU application, you have to select your top 3 majors. My #1 is BME, but my #2 and #3 are not from Whiting, they are Kreiger majors (Neuroscience and probably a Biology subset). Is this allowable?

When you are admitted to JHU, are necessarily admitted to one of the two undergradate schools? Or can you switch majors from one to the other freely?

due to the flexibility of Hopkins currilucum, u can always switch majors from Krieger to Whiting or vice versa during the academic year.

waaaait
jhu application is available already?

nooo..this is based on last years app

JHU wont post their app until august

First, the JHU application (and common app. supplement) only asks for 2 majors - not three.

Second, yes you may select either two Engineering majors, two Arts and Sciences majors, or an Engineering major and an Arts and Sciences major. Simply, you can choose what ever majors you want (and we do offer undecided as well!!!).

For BME, yes you must select this as your first choice major and then you may select any second major - Engineering or Arts & Sciences or Undecided.

As for when you are admitted, you are admitted to the full University and will be able to switch your intended major at any time. You are not admitted to a specific major, especially since you don't declare your major immediately. Engineers declare at the end of the first year and Arts & Sciences at the end of the second year. [[[The one exception to this is BME!!!]]]

thank you AdmisssionsDaniel!!!

but will freshmen course selection depend on whether ur going to go into engineering, arts/sciences, or undecided?

freshmen course selection is based on what you want to personally taken and what you think your intended major will be. since hopkins does not have a core curriculum and pretty much all courses are open to all students, you will have a lot of flexibility when selecting your first year courses.

your assigned academic advisor will assist you, and each department provides worksheets that will help you determine which courses align with which majors.

okay...can u meet the summer b4 freshman year with academic advisors to discuss scheduling??

Send your advisor an e-mail. It's not fun trudging about in the summer heat in Baltimore.

smder99 - over the summer you will receive materials from the academic advising offices about pre-registering for courses. you will also receive contact info for your assigned counselor who you can call or email at any time over the summer. Your first face-to-face meeting will be during orientation week.
