Application Process Questions...for real!

I know there is a deadline for applications at all colleges, but do college admissions reps start reviewing applications before the deadline, if applications are rolling in?

Also, after the deadline - how do colleges approve students and know how mnay to accept when they still haven't gotten to many others?

I'm not sure about the first question but as for the second one, they know how many students applied so they know the ratio of acceptance they need to have.

Some colleges have rolling admissions but a lot of top ones don't. All applications for top schools are treated the same way no matter when you submit them as long as they are before the deadline. This is usually because the application is viewed more than once.

^^Not necessarily true for #1. :P Chinnychinchang answered it quite nicely, but most colleges have their own system of narrowing down applications. Large universities, like the University of Washington, may use rolling admissions but others (saaay, Wellesley College) may do otherwise.

Check out each college's decision plans carefully. Some may offer Early Decision or Early Action or Regular Decision...others may offer their own plans (my college offers "Early Evaluation").

thanks for the info
