Application standouts

As a freshman what ec activities can I do and what r the best classes to take for a harvard admittance?

Use the search function. You’ve started FIFTEEN threads within two days of coming to this site, the bulk of the questions are very very basic. Read more. Post less.

Given the tenor of your posts, I believe you do suffer from naivete or brand name chasing, without any relationship to reality, nor are you searching for information on behalf of your “sister” who is a senior (and would have already applied to colleges, not searching for more info).

you’re not getting into harvard. you’re not getting into any ivy. if that’s your attitude, please don’t even waste their time.

You’re going to hate all the answers that you will get, but the sad reality is that there is no secret formula that guarantees acceptance into Harvard or any other top school for that matter. My advice? Don’t waste your time doing extracurriculars because you think it will get you into Harvard. Participate in EC that you enjoy, and strive to excel in these activities.

Relax, you’re only in 8th grade. If I were you I would stay off CC until you’re at least a junior. Your opinions in prospective colleges and careers will change, and quite frankly you’re wasting your time on here. Enjoy life. Enjoy middle school. Enjoy childhood.

Yes my sister has applied to colleges and is currently awaiting their responses including Harvard’s. @T26E4 plus thx for commenting on every one. If you’re annoyed by my posts, how about you ignore them

Thank you someone who doesn’t have a sarcastic rude answer @Ambition330 @T26E4

Class selection is easy: ask your guidance counsellor what the hardest schedule you can take is, and then tack on some extra AP courses just to be sure. AP calculus isn’t what it used to be, though, so make sure you’re doing real analysis by the end of junior year. Having any spare periods (lunch, art, and AP psychology are known de-facto free periods, so don’t get cute) is an auto-rejection, as are any grades A- or lower. You also need to consider the import of class rank: if there is any risk of one of your classmates attaining a higher GPA than you, devote all your energy to outdoing that particular person in every regard.

As for extracurriculars, you want to be an Intel or Siemens finalist at a minimum, but to spice up your application I’d recommend also doing something that shows your passion. Sail around the world solo in a ten-foot dinghy, or mediate the end of a guerrilla war in some far-off country (I hear the FARC may be getting more acquiescent to a ceasefire deal).
