DD was accepted to a state school in a neighboring state. She received a merit scholarship roughly equal to 1/4 of the cost of attendance for OOS students. This school is probably her first choice, but she has been waiting to hear from several others before accepting. Today she received an email from the Director of OOS recruiting offering her the opportunity to complete an OOS scholarship application to "possibly increase the amount of her merit awards should additional funds become available." Has anyone ever done this and actually received additional money? Truthfully, if her original award had been a few thousand dollars more, she probably would have accepted right away so she'll fill out the application and hope for the best. I was just curious if anyone else had heard of this before.

Obviously they wouldn't ask her to complete additional paperwork just for their own amusement. At many colleges, public AND private, some scholarships require additional paperwork or interviews. If the school is high on your daughter's list, she has absolutely nothing to lose by spending a bit of time completing the paperwork and seeing what happens. There's never a guarantee, of course, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.
