Application & Walk-In Auditions

Hello all! I just wanted to throw out a quick tip re. Miami and their academic application/walk-ins at Unifieds based on our experience last year.

If you are on the fence about Miami, but considering the possibility of trying to score a walk-in for Miami at Chicago Unifieds (or any other Unifieds), I strongly encourage you to have your child go ahead and complete the academic application NOW, before their deadline for academic & merit scholarships. Unfortunately, we didn’t really think about that last year, though Miami was on our list of programs my D was interested in from the start. When she was lucky enough to get a walk in in Chicago in February, and it turned out to be a great audition in which they encouraged her to apply for the school, she eagerly did so. It was a great surprise when she found out later that she had gotten in! Unfortunately, her academic application was submitted well after the school’s scholarship deadline, and even though she was offered a generous artistic scholarship, she was not offered any merit aid. I didn’t realize how expensive Miami was before she had her walk-in, and if I’d known that and that we were too late for her to be eligible for merit aid, I may not have allowed her to audition in the first place…it was just really disappointing to have to tell her she couldn’t go.
