Webster at Unifieds

Does anyone know if Webster does walk-ins in Chicago?

My daughter did a walk-in last year at NYC Unifieds. They did have her apply on line first using the Common App and pay an audition fee (small like $35) in addition to the fee on line for filing the common app, so make sure you have your passwords and credit cards handy. All in all, one of her most pleasant audition experiences. She came out of there feeling very positive. Wound up not being accepted, but still a great experience.

My D loved that audition at Unifieds as well. Did your D hear about the MT program already?

Webster notifies all BFA applicants at once and it is the end of March I believe. They were the last notification my D received last year.

@evcvmom if you were referring to my D, she auditioned last year. And I believe @bfahopeful is correct, Webster notifies all at once near the end of March. It was one of the last notifications my D got as well.

Hey…my daughter is a 2015 Webster grad…I had a chance to ask the faculty recently and they told me that they would be notifying by mid-March at the latest, this year. They made their final audition on campus much earlier than it has been in the past! Good luck to your kiddos…nothing but really good things to say about Webster from our D’s experience.

fingers crossed for this one!

Does Webster call, email or snail mail @mybroadwaybaby? Webster is on the top of my D’s list!

@lookingforarolemodel Last year Webster sent an email late March with acceptance and a letter followed. No phone call. (I just looked back at emails to double check).

My D is waiting for this notification too! she had a great experience at Chicago Unifieds. She felt like Lara was really interested in knowing a little bit about her. They were so friendly. @mybroadwaybaby, so your daughter loved the program?

Hey! Sorry for the delay…i don’t get on here much anymore! I know that letters should be coming this week/early next week…that was officially confirmed…

My daughter had an amazingly good experience at Webster…i am happy to answer any questions you have!

Thank you @mybroadwaybaby! My D says she doesn’t have any questions if she doesn’t get accepted! [-(
Let’s just say we are all pretty on edge over here these days. The waiting is so stressful. Well, we will see what happens. If she gets accepted, we are heading down and will see The Drowsy Chaperone while we are there. And I am sure she will have lots of questions then.

I’m really hoping for good news from Webster. I think my D would thrive on the challenge and intensity of the program and the schedule. It’s funny - I’d tried to talk her into applying but she had such a case of application fatigue that there were several programs that I had to just let go of. I didn’t give up though and was thrilled when she got a walk-in spot in Chicago. Since that time she’s researched the program and now knows what I’ve been trying to tell her for years…“always listen to your mom!” Wishing everyone luck and good news!

@mybroadwaybaby Enjoyed reading the recaps of your daughter’s experience at Webster! Curious…what is she doing these days? Still involved with theater?

Hi @momtojoss my D is living in NYC…she just finished a great contract playing a dream role…and is awaiting news of a couple of other things for spring/summer. She has run the gamut from being in final callbacks for a lead in a national tour … and not getting it… to being cast in a project that paid very well that didn’t really fit her goals( or her agents goals for her) … that she turned down. She babysits for her " survival job" and really loves it. She has always loved kids… but I know that’s not for. everyone. Everyday life is hard for these kids… don’t let anyone tell you any differently. Of course there is the unusual grad who books a huge gig from the start and never has a survival job because they book constantly. But for everyone of those we know, there are 19 others who get up early to head to calls, hoping to be seen.or perhaps appointments, if they have an agent…, they squeeze in a dance class or a voice lesson here and there as they can afford it…,and of course work to afford the ever escalating NYC rent. It’s hard and wonderful and for my girl, it’s a dream come true. The above is typical for grads from most BFA MT or acting programs…I can tell you that she repeatedly says that the acting heavy MT program that Webster provided is useful every single day. Plenty of schools are known for strong music in the MT program… only a few are known for having strong acting too! I’ve talked to a number of MT grads from other programs that feel like they didn’t get enough acting training, specifically. It’s worth investigating by talking to grads! All in all Webster worked well for our D…I will add one other thing…, the program is RIGOROUS! I mean these kids are going hard 9am to midnight 5 days a week…,for the first 2 years for sure. The requirements are heavy and sleep seemed like an afterthought. That said, the students were incredibly supportive of each other and the faculty was dedicated to them as individuals.
Lastly, Webster doesn’t allow freshman to audition… some have issues with that. Our D thought it was wonderful. The class bonded. There was no early competition. It was really great!

Thank you so much for the update! I knew that Webster was rigorous after reading your posts and just wondered about burn-out or whatever. Plus was curious if she was working! Sounds wonderful for her. Gives me much hope! Unfortunately my D didn’t get accepted to Webster but hopefully she will end up in a program that is just as rigorous and brings her the same success your D has!! Fabulous!!

I am sure she will @momtojoss…I can tell you absolutely that many, many schools have good training…no one school has cornered the market on that…some have current mojo or may be more or less in vogue than others…but I really don’t think that makes a huge difference for very long. I know kids from absolutely unknown schools that are working all the time and kids from the hallowed top of the heap that have been out for 5 years and haven’t gotten a gig yet. The school is not the end all. Best of luck to your daughter!

Thank you so much!!
