Applied by 12/20, but no info regarding interview yet?

I submitted my application on 12/20, the deadline for priority alumni interview consideration. I still have not received an email and/or call regarding an interview. I live in a major metropolitan area, so I highly doubt the issue is that there aren't any alumni interviewers in the area.

Should I contact Duke or should I just wait and hope I receive an email/call? I understand that Duke and alumni are busy, but I want to make sure I don't miss out on an interview if one is available. Also, does anybody know if it is normal to not have received some form of contact by this point?

This issue has been addressed MANY time on CC, including the thread that immediately follows yours (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/duke-university/1606376-duke-class-2018-rd-discussion.html</a>) at this moment. If you aspire to attend Duke, you’re probably smart and understand that a little research can resolve your questions without imposing on others.

I didn’t think this was “imposing on others.” I’m not forcing anyone to answer (let alone read) my question.

I looked at the titles of all the thread on the first page of the forum which go back until 1/9 and didn’t find any relating to this topic. I also did a quick Google search and didn’t see any titles that seemed to answer my question. Of course, I assumed it had already been asked, but I didn’t think it would hurt to bring it up again. I should have checked the RD Discussion thread, but the title does not make it obvious that it pertains to my question.

Either way, I appreciate the redirection to some info regarding my issue. Thank you.

You are welcome.

I do not believe it is at all unreasonable for individuals to conduct a modicum of research BEFORE asking others for assistance. When one fails to do so, in my opinion he is, in essence, depending on others to do his “homework.” After all, almost everyone who posts to this CC sub-forum has – or wants to have – a Duke connection, which implies a certain level of autonomy, intellect, maturity, and the ability to use elementary search techniques. To illustrate, I just replied to a question asking when Duke would release its RD admissions decisions; in less time than it took to post that inquiry here, a simple Google search would have provided definitive information from Undergraduate Admissions. Therefore, Alice, I do not believe this is a question of empathy. Rather, it is one of fairness. Specifically, is it fair to ask others to do for you, what you can easily do for yourself?

This is exactly what loses points from me in an alumni interview. I’m telling you right now, if I interview you and I get the sense that you have not done your research about Duke, I will automatically downgrade you in my head. I couldn’t care less how many other colleges you’re applying to and had to research.

It’s not a question of empathy. Like TopTier said, others shouldn’t have to do your homework for you and some of you will quickly find this out once you get to which ever college you end up.

Don’t put too much stock into the interview, especially if you’re from a non-metropolitan area where there aren’t too many Duke alums. Won’t affect your chances if you don’t get an interview
