Applied ED1 to Vassar, likelihood of acceptance?

I go to a very mediocre public school in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. There are a lot of AP classes, but the caliber of work is incredibly low in subjects other than sciences and mathematics. I have applied ED to Vassar, my favorite school by a longshot. Do you believe I will make the cut?

Wow I think you have great chances! And plus your geographic location will bring more diversity and help your chances!

Just curious–did you put anything for the yourspace part of the application?

What are you kidding me? you look fabulous. you have a great resume and they will love that you come from Iowa. VC is big on getting applicant and qualified students from all 50 states and Iowa does not have many. You are very qualified. Good luck. Let us know.

I included a CD of my instrumental compositions/mashups. The explanation is as follows. I didn’t include sour apples or pink panther remix.

Track 1: I composed this song, and I play drums, guitar, bass, and synthesizers. The sound is a mix of electronica and acoustic funk.

Track 2: I made a remix of the Beatles’ “Day in the Life.” The beginning is from the original recording. I took the orchestral build and modified the sound to match the electronic genre. I employed the original track’s vocals. All instrumentals are my own. The ending shifts back into the track’s end of the first verse with a cutoff that I created. The track is very cyclical. The completion of the verse is where the orchestral build starts.

Track 3: This is a reworking of Weezer’s “Island in the Sun” into a short transitional jazz band arrangement. Again, all instrumentals are my own.

Track 4: This is an original composition. This track was mainly crafted with synthesizers in order to create a sonic landscape.

Track 5: This is an original composition. The song is supposed to sound like an infusion of a more classical style of music with new age sounds.

Track 6: This is an original composition in a very different style. I decided to create a beat for an independent hip-hop artist.

Track 7: The voice at the beginning of this track was lifted from a radio recording. I also included very disconnected Beatles’ vocals and choice dialog from a favorite Seinfeld episode. The idea was to deemphasize vocal inclusions. The instrumentals are all original.

Track 8: This is an original composition done solely through the layering of tracks created with one acoustic guitar. The beat comes from physically striking the instrument. I was inspired by a rainy day.

Track 9: This song is an entirely experimental composition. The scene is an orchestra practicing before a performance. The whole group plays different parts of a song, but in certain moments these parts can come together into a beauty of their own. As the practice session devolves, the tracks separate and fade away.

Honestly, you’re in. Great scores, good GPA, focused ECs in music, and your supplemental CD will be fantastic. Not to mention geographic diversity.

Nice CD btw. I kinda want to hear your jazzy Weezer rework. I love Weezer :)

Also, are you male? I looked at your Broadjam site and it says your name is Daniel. Daniel could also easily be a girls name, but if you are indeed a guy, your chances for Vassar increase significantly.

Again, I would say you have good chances. Are you going to be in need of fin aid?

I am male and did not apply for financial aid.

I really hope that they aren’t evaluating applications based on financial aid. Admission should not be based on whether people can pay the ridiculous prices for tuition.

Vassar has decided to be “need blind” in the application process.

From the Vassar admission website :

Vassar College is in a position to provide a uniquely enriching education to qualified students regardless of their financial circumstances. Vassar is need-blind in the admission process for all first year applicants who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Good luck.

As janet indicated, Vassar will NOT be making admissions decisions based on a student’s financial situation, but just be aware that, as one friend of mine who is a Vassar alum said “some of the kids here have had the world given to them.”

So yes, Vassar is now need blind, but I think it’s only something like 30-45% with aid.

Anyway, being male will help!
I’m applying EDI to Vassar too…Looks like I have stiff competition…

De Gravitator? Is that one of you guys? Anti-war dance metal was an awesome idea. We should team.
