Applied for Fafsa, Social security administration doesnt know im a citizen...

so i applied to fafsa and the office said that the Social Security Administration has no information about my citizenship and i have to show my proof of citizenship to my school. This is fine i have a passport and certificate of naturalization.

My question is, if the social security administration has no information about my citizenship (which i got about 4 years ago) then does that mean the federal government has no knowledge of my citizenship? is the only proof of citizenship i have my passport and documents?

i have a passport, certificate of naturalization, and a valid drivers license but all these things i had to submit physical proof of my citizenship. my main question is does the federal government have some offical e-record of my citizenship in their databases?

Dont’ take it too seriously. I’ve been married nearly 30 years now, and it was just a few years ago that the SSA noticed that I never changed my maiden name for SS. I, and many others in my situation. Though SSA is a govt agency and is supposed to be integrated with the IRS and other govt offices, it does not always get it right. Show them your paperwork so that you get on their records. FAFSA uses SSA info which often comes from the tax rolls, to verify eligibility.

We have lots of immigrant students, so I run into this often with students. I always suggest that they contact the SSA to ask them to update their records.
