Hello,

I was looking at areas of study on Columbia's site for the college and SEAS, and I saw that both schools have an Applied Math major; is there a difference? Also, could someone give me the basic rundown of the differences in the applied math and applied physics majors?

applied math in the college and applied math in seas covers largely the same material at a junior/senior level. Before that the curricula vary a little, like apma in seas have to do physics for 4 semesters. The difference between the curricula is minimal, I would do choose the school more based on the core courses around it. CC has it's full core, and engineering has part of the CC core + science classes(phy, chem, comp sci) and the engineering core (gateway lab + pre-professional course).

applied phy is only offered in seas. Apph and apma in seas completely overlap until junior year, at which stage there is little overlap in major related courses. There is still overlap in the technical electives that you can take, but major classes are completely different. You should take a look at the seas-bulletin on columbia's website for a list of classes in each.
