I'm looking to transfer to a few different UCs and I noticed that a few of them have the option for an "Applied Physics" program. I had always thought that engineering was essentially applied physics, but in a different form.

I have been thinking about an engineering degree for the past half a year or so, but the only engineering discipline that truly interests me is civil. I've heard rumors that being a civil engineer has inflated promises of job opportunities and that I would need to go to graduate school to increase my chances, so that's pushing me towards the applied physics degree.

So... what is Applied Physics? What kind of job could I get with an Applied Physics degree? Are job opportunities similar to an engineering degree? What are the differences between a civil engineering degree and an applied physics degree?

Tried to use google and the internet but the results have been disappointing.
