I agree with trying to talk her into applying for summer. My D went and loved it and had no regrets. She was oriented to the layout of the campus, added credits to her AP/dual enrollment hours, and when she returned for fall, she was just very comfortable being there. Friends who "didn't need to go summer" expressed wishing that they had.

Here is another angle. A friend did NOT want to apply summer, and had been told that if she applied for fall and was not quite as competititve, she would be offered summer so not to worry. So she applied fall and didn't worry. Until she was deferred from the Nov notification period. Then she was deferred from the Feb notification period. During this time she even retook SAT's etc. She was finally wait-listed. She has a sibling currently attending and a parent alum. She eventually was offered a place for summer C, but it did not play out the way she wanted. She didn't know she had a place until well into May.

She has to decide just how badly she wants to go to FSU.

our s had two other friends apply to fsu for the second application cycle. they didn't know about the early one and didn't think it would matter. they also applied for the fall term stating that they "didn't want to miss out on their last summer at home".

both got deferred and then rejected. Both had SAT scores above 1300 and very good GPA's. One is going to Delaware this year and the other the Universoty of Pittsburgh. These are certainly good schools, but they would have liked to have gone to FSU. For oos students especially, there is a distinct advantage applying for summer term. first it tells the university that you really want to go there (may not be the case with your d), secondly, it provides the university with additional oos tuition revenue for the summer term.

good luck in whatever decision your d makes.

From what I've seen, the application can't be submitted until January. Perhaps it becomes available to fill out in December. Plus don't you need tax return information for it?

I thought the FAFSA for the new year begins with Fall of that year and ends the summer of the next year.

I could be wrong, but that's how I read it...

FSU Essay Question:
[quote]
For almost one hundred years, the Latin words, "Vires, Artes, Mores" have been the guiding philosophy behind Florida State University. Vires signifies strength of all kinds - moral, physical, and intellectual; Artes alludes to the beauty of intellectual pursuits as exemplified in skill, craft, or art; and Mores refers to character, custom, or tradition. Describe how one or more of the values embodied in these concepts are reflected in your life.

D's ACT scores are delayed. They were supposed to come out Wednesday, and now it's Friday and the scores still haven't come up. She has FSU listed to receive the free report.

If October 10th is the 1st deadline at FSU and they don't have her scores at that time, will they still consider her application for the 10/10 deadline or bump her to January. This is also providing that her GC sends transcripts and are received a FSU within the next 2 weeks.

Well, I guess what I'm asking is, what is considered a complete application on 10/10?

Will they have prior scores from SAT or ACT? As long as they have some then the application is probably complete. I would call them and tell them about the delay and ask if there will be any problem and to see if they'll consider those scores if they aren't there by 10/15.

Thanks fish. I'm going to call them tomorrow and ask. We are still waiting for the September ACT scores that will be about a week late (ACT hasn't loaded her scores yet). I could send in the June ACT but that was her first time and the scores aren't up to FSU standards.

Thanks all. Does anyone have experience this year in knowing how long after yu submit your application that it shows as received. Transcripts are supposed to go out Tuesday, the GC is also dragging her feet on those. I hope they also make it by October 10th.
