Applied today - question about essay & resume

Has anyone applied for 2009 today? If you go back into look at the essay and resume submitted does it show it just running all together even though when you pasted it in there were separate paragraphs?

It explains on the website that all indentation and spacing is lost in the "translation" to online. That happened last year too. Actually, I think last year if you started a new line it kept it as a new line, but that was it. No indentation etc. We used CAPS on the resume in places to try to organize it. I remember we just sent the essay as is, but played with the resume on the FSU site to try to at least get a new line to stay a new line and I think it worked?

We've got those caps on the resume sections too so that shouldn't be too bad. I just hope the essay doesn't just look like one run on paragraph on their end. We pasted it in and made sure there was an extra line between but when we opened the submitted essay, it was all together. Hopefully it's okay.

It appeared to me that if you double spaced between the paragraphs, that was about as much organization as you're gonna get!

It's all good - they'll figure it out!

It won't take tabs, but you can use spaces to make it looked tabbed (like 5 spaces). That's what I did and it come out fine on the preview.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who applied today. I hope that you figured it all out- I was able to space between my paragraphs.

What is everyone applying for? Fall or Summer? Major?

My D applied for summer 2009 Computer Science - Software Engineering.

My son applied for Summer C, Music Therapy/Cello Performance.

I applied for Summer C - International Affairs.

Good luck everyone! High five for applying early, you're already one step ahead of everyone else. = )

I'm currently filling out my application. But I'm a terrbile writer and have no idea even where to begin on this essay. Any tips would be nice

brittany--you can do it. You just need to think and write some ideas or thoughts down. Make a like of ideas and see which one you can run with. Its actually a broad topic that you can take and use the way you want to.

Did anyone (or everyone) send in hard copies of everything that was submitted online? The essay, resume, repertoire list (if applying to the college of music). Or is this overkill and possibly cause confusion?

I hadn't thought of this as an option until just now and didn't read anything on the website to suggest that it should be done.

We did not send any hard copies. They seem to have received everything electronically just fine.

I sent in a hard copy of my transcript as well as an electronic one. They received it in one week.

D just finished her essay. FSU had THE most competitive essay question!!

Now I need to try to convince D to apply to Summer C. She REFUSES to apply to summer, saying she would only have a week between the end of her senior year and starting Summer C (IF she's accepted).

We went through the same thing with our s. being oos and none of his other friends leaving for college right after hs graduation, he was very resistant. However, if your daughter were to speak to him now, he would tell her it was the best decision he made. As an oos student not knowing anyone at fsu, the summer session was a great way for him to meet a bunch of friends and become familiar with the campus. It also served to alleviate all the anxiety associated with going away to college for the first time. When he returned after summer c, his friends were in awe of him having already experienced college life.

He said the summer flew by and he is so happy about making that decision. It also helps to get six credits taken care of (in addition to any ap/duel enrollment your daughter may have coming out of high school). The spring registration windows (as is the case with all registration windows) is based upon the number of credits you have. After the summer, our s had 21 credits which help a bit in terms of being able to register for spring classes before some other freshman. Certainly there are freshman with many more credits then he has, but with his summer credits, he won't be at the end of the registration period and should get a decent selection of classes.

JerseyShoreMom,

I couldn't agree more with nycollegedad! My son applied for the summer C term after much resistance as well. But FSU is his #1 choice and he said he'd do just about anything to get accepted, including starting 1 week after graduation. I'm realizing it might be harder on me than on him! It will be sad to see him leave earlier than I ever expected.

But he agrees with what nycollegedad has said. He now understands it will allow him some time to get acclimated to the university, make a few friends, and then be raring to go when football season starts! This jumpstart will be invaluable.

btw, my son also applied to Loyola New Orleans and we felt their essay was much, much harder! We were almost panicking when it was due. There was lots of hand-wringing going on thru that.

Good luck to your D.

Good luck to your daughter! If anything the competition will most likely be even more fierce for this fall's applicants than last. If your daughter has any weak spots in her transcript, application, SAT scores (writing included) or essay, I would encourage her to look at applying for summer if FSU is high on her choice list. I agree with nycollegedad; there are some great positives for students who start in the summer.

Also, I don't know if you are aware of it, but, FSU has a special study abroad program for freshman. There is a big financial advantage with this program for oos students. My understanding is after the student has spent the entire freshman year abroad they will only pay in-state tuition for the rest of their college years at FSU. (A mom from Alaska was telling me about it at freshman orientation.) You may want to check it out. International Programs
