Apply as a Sophomore or Junior Confused!!

Hi ok this is a little long but please bear with me! As of right now im currently at the university of arizona right now and im in my 3rd semester (Sophomore Year). I want to transfer back to california because of my financial problems my parents are dealing with, and i feel my parents can no longer support my OOS tuition in Arizona. I'm pretty sure i will only have about 50-53 credits that will be transferrable at the end of my sophomore year, and all the other classes it seems will not count such as dancing/improvisation/ and business math. I was originally in business, but i decided to switch to a major such as linguistics because im fascinated with language!

Now because i will not have 60 credits by the end of my sophomore, should i apply to these schools (these are the only 3 i plan on applying to) as a linguistics uci/uc merced/ and uc riverside as a sophomore transfer( person with under 60 credits)? My college gpa is about a 3.0, dont know how hard it is to get into UCR And does having around 50 credits hurt me because im almost a junior standing? I kinda went through the application process and it seems different than applying as a Junior, they want to know high school grades too and SAT as well, does this factor in alot? My high school gpa was a 3.76 UW with alot of honors/ap classes Im pretty confused and would like some help really stressing alot i feel sad for my parents who are struggling for me, i feel hopeless, but thank you CC community

If you genuinely want to save your parents’ money and go back to California, you’re probably going to have to go back to a California Community College. Transferring OOS with a 3.0 college GPA will be very hard. You’d probably have to go back to a CCC for a year. I know that sounds pretty lame, but that’s most likely what you’ll have to do.

You may have a shot at UCM or UCR though. I’d say it’s definitely worth applying ASAP this semester! The app deadline (app finished and submitted) is at the end of November.

thanks, i really appreciate your feedback! i will apply as a sophomore even if i will have around 50 credits, hopefully UCR will accept me, if not then its ok ill figure something out :)
