If I had bad junior year grades, but good freshman and sophomore year grades, should I apply ED/EA? I know some schools give priority to those who apply early, but is it better to apply later so they can see your 1st semester senior year grades?

At least in my school, if you apply EA or ED colleges will see your first marking period grades before they make their admissions decision.
Why did you get bad grades? I think it might be helpful if you can explain that.

What college?

I’m going for universities between 25-50 on US News Rankings. I overestimated my ability to handle the courseload I selected (taking a courseload that kids at my school take to get into HYPSM) and ended up with B’s and C’s in all the core classes. In my school, you get EA/ED decisions before the end of the first semester, but I’m not sure if we send in the 1st quarter grades.

I think those grades would show you might have problems at a more selective school. I would recommend going with RD.

Getting B’s and C’s in all your core classes in the most competitive track at your high school is going to be problematic whether you apply ED/EA or RD. The early round should be used by students who have a record through junior year that can not be improved by senior year grades. That is not the case for you.
