Apply to WCAS or SESP as a freshman applicant?

Hi, I'm really interested in Northwestern and I was wondering if it would be better for me to apply to WCAS or SESP as a freshman applicant. I am interested in the education track and becoming a teacher or some sort, but I heard that only about 40 people are accepted into SESP even though they have less applicants.

I'm a CA resident, 3.7 UW 4.3 W, 2100 SAT, several ECs. I know I'm already a long shot for NU but I was wondering which school would be better to apply to right now.

Thank you!

Honestly, go for whatever you’re more interested in. I feel that essays matter a lot for NU since they want to make sure you’re a good fit. If you could write a better essay from the point of a SESP applicant, do that. WCAS is a lot more general, so it might be harder to show your goals of becoming a teacher. Based on your test scores and grades I think you are better off applying ED if you really want to get in.

If your career goal is secondary teaching (or the other three SESP concentrations), apply directly to SESP and don’t bother with the WCAS application. You will be able to write a stronger essay that addresses the mission and values of the SESP curriculum (pre-professional emphasis on teacher education, social policy, counseling, and organizational development).

It’s because no one knows about SESP until after they get on campus.

A majority of students in SESP transferred in from Weinberg their freshmen year or something
