Applying Early Action to a School that isn't my first choice?

Villanova University is not my first choice - it's probably like third or fourth on my list. However, my mother advised me to apply Early Action just so I'd have a decision and possibly admission 'under my belt.'

I'm pretty sure that if admitted Early Action, one does not have to deliver a decision to the school until regular decisions come out. Can someone confirm this for me? I would hate to have to deliver a decision before knowing about other acceptances.

I'd love to apply Early Decision to my top school but I can't because of financial reasons.

That’s correct. Early Action is non-binding, and one must respond on the same date as for Regular Decision schools, on May 1.

Villanova’s EA program is non-binding and non-restrictive (meaning you can apply early to other schools too) so go ahead and apply by the Nov. 1 deadline if you can get a decent application put together by then.

Your mother is right – having an acceptance in hand makes a great Christmas present!
