Does it help to apply for Early Action at Villanova if a student is very interested in going to that institution?

Generally speaking, colleges see EA as a sign of a student’s initiative and level of interest in the college. I don’t know about Villanova specifically, but for most colleges’ adcoms, a student who is deferred during the EA phase has slightly preferential treatment during the RA pool. So yes, apply for EA if you can! It can only help you.

There is no harm in early action if you are interested in a school (unless you are also really interested in a school that offers single choice early action). Try looking up the acceptance rates at villanova for early action applicants v. regular decision. Not only may it help your chances a little, but getting into a school you like early on makes senior year a LOT less stressful.

EA is great! You can apply to more than 1 school EA (usually), and no binding agreement in case of financials, etc.

If they have an ED program in addition to EA, it can actually hurt your chances in some instances, because they know you aren’t their first choice and that you are hoping for something better. But if they only have EA, it could do nothing but positive things for you, especially because it’s non-binding! Good luck!

isnt EA more competitive overall than RD?
