I’m an Indian student applying ED at Northwestern University.
My marks : Class 9 - 81%, class 10 - 94%, class 11 - 72% (fell sick during exams), doing well in class 12 again.
Act - 32
EC : 2 internships for electrical engineering(intended major), debating (represented school in another state and awards), MUN(On the board of a committee & an award), elocution(4 yeas), chess(4 years), cricket(2 years), athletics(1year), NCC ( Air wing), science club director & readers’ club treasurer(many activities under my leadership like science quiz and fair, film festival, spelling bee, cultural meet), dramatics(several awards - 3 years), film making(awards and one movies have been shown in city level, national & international film festivals),Diploma in kayaking, rescuing and school level spelling bees.
LoRs: One from the internship place will be 10/10. The other 2 from school teachers will also be around 9/10(conducting a seminar to interest middle school students in scientific theories and research). Counselor likes me a lot, so around 9/10.
Taking subject tests in November and getting around 750 in practice tests.
(I have a Facebook page which has about 5000 likes and I post all stuff related to science. It’s quite popular. But I don’t know if this helps in any way.) Most probably, won’t apply for financial aid.
Please suggest if I have a good chance of getting in. Also, please suggest other colleges I should apply to.
and 82 cumulative gpa is low. Your act is good but low gpa and high act might give off the impression that you’re a slacker. Can you have your gc explain the reason why your grade 11 grades are so low?
I am applying to Northwestern ED too… If you demonstrate a strong passion for NU you should be accepted with those stats.
@20171
Thanks a lot for replying!
In my school, marks are low in 11 so that the students study for ISC properly. Also, i could ask my counselor to write a note about my sickness during the exams, right?
@cappex
Thanks a lot for replying!
Yeah, I’ll try my best to write a good essay. Otherwise, everything’s fine?
yes I actually think there a place for them to explain extenuating circumstances on the common app
the problem is schools will only see the cumulative, not the individual semesters or the final exams. Maybe if your gc sends the full transcript for that year they could see your grades before the final exams brought them down? Not sure if you can do that, just a thought lol. Definitely talk to you gc, you’re probably not the first person in this situation!
My application is good, otherwise?
If you are applying ED why are you taking the subject tests in November? Are you going to take them in October?
Sorry xD
*October
I think you have a fairly good chance, make sure to spend lots of time on essays because those are what will truly set you apart from the pack.
Thank you so much @dragon345678 !
Yes, I’ll spend a lot of time on them!
Your GPA is low and your ACT is below admission average for McCormick. It is a reach for you.
Have you applied ED? I’m an Indian student too btw
