I’m planning on applying early decision to Hopkins. I don’t actually want to do BME, but I do like the university. However, I;m still not 100% sure I’d like to attend and have other non-binding programs I think would be a better fit, but that I am not sure I will get in to. I’ve heard that if I apply to BME and get rejected (which I know I will), my ED is no longer binding and I have until 1/15 to make a decision, which I think would be ideal. my question is, does applying to BME by checking that box make my chances of admission into the University lower? Basically, I want to enjoy the higher chance of getting in via ED but not face binding until I have been confirmed in my other options.
BME admission is a separate process so checking that box does not make your chance of admission into the university lower. However, the school does accept more BMEs proportionally during ED so be prepared to commit if you get in for it. I applied thinking I’d get into the school but not BME as well although I actually wanted to get in. If you get in it’s a win win situation (only if you can afford it though) since it is a phenomenal program and you won’t have to worry about other admissions, and if you don’t you’re not binded but may have gotten into the university as well.
