Applying ED to Brown

Hi! I know that there are many threads on here about this, but I, too, am considering applying ED to Brown. I love the flexibility of the open curriculum, the courses, the fact that it’s by the ocean, etc. From researching, I feel that Brown is my top choice–however, since I live quite far away and my father and stepmother have a new baby (!), we can’t visit. I know it’s unwise to apply ED to a college without having prior visited, but I believe that even if I got into all of my other colleges on my list, I would still choose Brown because of its open curriculum. Would applying ED be wise?

BTW: I am most certainly not hooked, and I will not be applying for financial aid (I have four parents, so I definitely don’t qualify for fin aid). I haven’t won national awards or anything; just some regional things, with a 4.0 UW GPA and a 32 on the ACT (I will be retaking the ACT in September). Thank you so much!

If its your first choice definitely apply early. You won’t be disappointed in this university which has one of the prettiest campuses in the US. It will be hard to get in unless you have something special or unique in your app. Where are you from? Based on your needing to come from a distance, you may have geodiversity in your favor. Good Luck!

My daughter applied ED without visiting Brown. She got in and loves it. It’s a lovely campus, cute town and she likes the open curriculum. If it’s your first choice, you should definitely apply ED.

It is a great school in a beautiful location. I would not be concerned at all about your arriving there and not liking as much as you would have seen in a quick visit.

However, if you apply ED you pretty much should plan on attending with no financial aid at all. If that is fine, then apply ED. If you want to compare financial aid offers from different universities, then apply EA or regular.

Thank you all very much! I will discuss it with my parents, but I am really leaning towards applying ED.

@preppedparent : I am from Minnesota; I’m not sure if that’s advantageous or not (I am guessing not? But depends).
