Applying ED to your favorite school, good or bad

Here is my quesiton although I won't be applying for another 6 months, my two top choices are both major reach schools, for me. U Michigan and U Miami. My brother and sister go to BU and Harvard respectively. So as you can see I have some big shoes to fill. That said, I had some setbacks which didn't allow me to perform the way I would have liked to but overall am doing pretty good. Yet to take my SATs so I am sure this will be an important factor. Is it rediculous to apply early to a school where you don't have much of a chance, I am debating and have heard various arguments on this "tactic". I dont' want to waste it if my chances are pretty slim on the other hand, I REALLY want one of these schools. Please help, I need your advice.

Also this is my brothers acct. and i am taking it hostage since he is away at school but is there anyway I can change the name to something which reflects more about me? Thank you!

Michigan doesn't have ED just rolling. Thus get everything in EARLY (During September) and you have better chances. Also this still counts as RD for other schools

It's good, duh. Apply ED to the school that is your first choice, regardless of whether you think you have great chances.

yea u apply ED to ur dream school. Whether u get in or not, ull have the satisfaction of knowing u applied and got an answer instead of many "what if" scenarios. I know U Mich has a rolling and if u apply before november your chances will be good. I think UM might have an EA as well but i might be consufing it w/ another schoo.

I think ED applicants generally have a higher acceptance rate. However, you lose any ability to negotiate scholarship offers since ED locks you in to the school. Make sure you will be happy with any place you apply.

^ And make sure you can afford it regardless of the merit or financial aid package they give you. (You might want to talk that one over with your parents!)
