Applying ED

How much does applying ED improve your chances? Cause....I was looking at my school college admission site, and some people got into some very selective schools with not the best of GPAs but ok SATs. For example, some people with like 3.5 GPAs and around 2150 SATs got into such schools like CalTech, Yale, CMU, JHU, and NYU. USUALLY in such cases, they went to the college, which leads me to think they applied ED (the site doesn't say if they did or not). So, does applying ED really improve your chances by that much?

There are a BAJILLION threads on this - use google to search inside talk.collegeconfidential.com or use the search button.

Quick answer to your question - your chances are improved, but not by much more than 1 or 2 percent. If you're development, legacy, or URM, then it'll increase by a little bit more.

Yale and Caltech only have early action, which doesn't really help that much...
I bet a lot of those kids who had lower gpas and SATs were "hooked" -- a lot of early admits are athletes, who are given some forgiveness in terms of academic criteria (but obviously not that much, lol...2150 is still pretty darn good!)
