applying ed2... WHAT WAS I THINKING!?!?!?!

well, the supplement thing was sent today, and uh, i have just comprehended what i had done... anyway, how are my chances??? any feedback is welcome!

Chinese, CA resident, 17 years old

applying #1 as education in the art/sci college (teacher)

SAT: 800M 560V 690W =2050 (flippin sick, sadofboasbdfjsabvjkcxb, sorry i was cleaning my keyboard cuz i threw up on it)
SAT2s, not needed at wastl but its disgusting as well

GPA: 3.4 unweighted, about 3.9 weighted (........... no joke)

no class rank but clearly, its gonna be around 25%ile IF that

senior classes: 4 APs (bio econ calc and english)
took us history last year, 3 on the ap test (worth sending the score??)

extras, got about 200 something hours of community service through these programs:

intel rural teachers program: 3 weeks spent in rural china helping english
teachers' oral english. good rec from the headmaster (can we send supplemental recs?) 9hrs a day and i controlled 24 students.

CSM SHanghai internship, 3 weeks of about the same thing, except the students were white collars instead of teachers.. 8hours a day 10 students

junior statesmen of america, two years and im speaker of the house

SAT club president: tutor kids SAT (im just the leader, not the tutor!!, well for math i am)

journalism/yearbook editor in chief (for both), but only in 9th grade. and i wasnt even in the country (studied abroad in china) oh, might as well put that i was also on varsity basketball for 9th grade only

10th grade jv football

private tutor, 10 bux an hour

essays should be legitimate and teacher recs should be above average

well, what more can i say? there goes 55 bux! not to mention SAT scores and stuff... sigh...

i think the only thing thats good about my whole application is that few people have the experience that i have... otherwise, say hello to community college!

also, capable of paying full ride

one more thing, i signed up for education, which is what i want to do, and my extra curriculars are extremely focussed on that i think

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ^n respond!!! thanks!

Admission at wustl is need-blind. They don't look at your css profile until after they've accepted / rejected you. A friend of mine put down that he was able to pay "$0" of the tuition (his stats were about the same as yours... so are mine, and I'm applying EDI). Anyway, my friend got in EDI and they only gave him $6,000.

Let me ask you... why WashU?

I think that the 560 v is going to hurt you as the verbal score is more important than is the math score since writing and reading are required for all majors. Colleges do not cut internationals a break because English is not their native language.

My advice would be to retake the SAT I after studying for the verbal part. I think it's worth it to sign up now to retake the SAT because you may have a very hard time being accepted ED or regular admission at colleges like Wash U.

You have time to study and retake the SAT. Do it! You can also try the ACT. WashU will take gladly it, and if you get >30, it will be pretty good for ED.

otherwise good eh???

i AM taking the SAT1 again in november, but doubt my attempt will have any big impact (except for negative, maybe)

in any case, i still think its a good investment

ps, i wanna go to wash u cuz first of all, it has several of the majors im insterested in. second, its in a different environment than california (i hate ca), and third, its sent me a lot of stuff and seems to be one of the few schools that have.... sad to say..

pps, im not even an international student, born in chicago!

a) Every school has nearly all the majors WashU does.
b) A lot of places are different from California.

Why worry so much about WUSTL then? There are a whole ton of other schools you can apply to.

ok, revised reasons

its prestigious
im also applying to other schools similar to wustl
it has few asians! (increasing my chances, not because i hate asians)
southern hospitality (fake reason)

anyway, just all the reviews ive read seem really appealing and stuff so F it im gonna give it a shot

Yeah man!!

You got nothing to lose!!

I hope I get in ED I and I hope to see you in the FALL 2006

10% chance...and I'm being nice

s snack are you a wustl student?

If it makes you feel any better I got into WashU last year with lower stats than you did! So everyone has a chance. WashU is truely an amazing school. Good luck!

I doubt asians are considered an URM at WU

Asians are not URM anywhere, except in some southern state schools. I was also wrong earlier about WUSTL being need-blind; that was my misconception, they are actually "need-aware", meaning they take it into consideration but it shouldn't affect your chances unless you need large amounts of fin aid.

will being Syrian help me in any way? (i kno its caucasian but i explicity told wash u i was part syrian)

whoa...back up...I read in a previous CC thread that WUSTL is not need blind. Instead, they're "need aware." I'm not sure how creditable, but I read it on CC, so judge for yourself!

Anonymous: That's what I just said, WUSTL is "need aware". That's what the representative told me at the info session when I visited.

jtslick: It won't help you one bit.

HVSahin, what is large amount of finaid 8-}
WU says that finaid for int'l is limited? So r u int'l? Did you apply for scholarships?
I was still much wondering about ed2 to WU, as my SATs are damnly bad T_T. But there are many things of WU that attract me :((.

I'm not international, no, but I went to all their information sessions. I haven't applied for scholarships yet, since the deadline is mid january and I'll know whether or not I got in by then.

I would say large amount of fin aid is anything over 10-15k a year for domestic applicants, but ANY need for financial aid is likely to hurt you in the international pool. This is true for almost every school in the US though, it's not just WUSTL.

does ed2 at wustl give an applicant much advantage as opposed to rd?

Not a huge advantage, but some, yes. It shows you're dedicated enough to want the school despite what any other college tells you.
