Applying for fall of 2010 Cornell

The thing is, my SAT’s are R 730 M 570 W 730 and I only got a 3.45 my first semester (currently have a 3.73), and I’m applying to Arts & Sciences, which has one of the lowest acceptance rates, so the other components of my application have to knock the admissions officers on their asses, and I don’t think that missing a prerequisite is going to do that. Hopefully my essays are really good…

What do you intend to major in? Your Math is going to hurt you I think, esp, since Cornell is particularly a tech-y, math-sy school.

But, yea, work on the rest!

Biology, which since it is somewhat math-heavy, means I’m rather screwed.

At least I have great recommendations and EC’s…

Do you have to submit your SATs for CAS? You cld resit for them again. How do you know if your recommendations are good?

Oh yes! One more thing, what does a gd EC record entail? Was hoping I could get an idea of where I stand.

your sat scores bad, a 2030 is great. but since when is biology math heavy? i never seen it have math other than hardy weinberg and genetics= 2 chapters/ 55

I may re-sit on the 13th of March date. I wasn’t very confident in math in HS; I know for a fact that I’m a LOT better now and could probably add another 70 pts. to that score rather easily.

But then again, I’m planning on sending my stuff in ASAP, as the admissions representative told me that it was rolling admissions when I called, so I don’t know how much taking the SAT’s a month later is going to help me.

EDIT to Castiel: mostly for some chem stuff, physics and statistics. At NU, Biology is very math focused; Calc for Bio has a reputation for being harder than the Engineering Calc courses. It doesn’t help that our math department is one of the …lacking departments and has an absurdly high turnover rate. Most of my friends and I have teachers who have been at the school for less than a year, with TA’s teaching a disturbingly high number of classes, which is never a good thing

EDIT the Second: I don’t think Hardy-Wienburg calculations are that hard. It’s more making sure you keep track of the variables than anything really tricky.

EDIT Prime: looking over the Wiki page, it looks like we didn’t get into the advanced stuff. We mostly just stuck to ideal models.

how long would it take SAT/SATII score reports to reach cornell if i ordered them today?

lol that was a bunch of edits

In the process of filling out the supplement and getting the recommendation letters. I was just wondering how much the amount of credits you have completed so far affects the decision. For instance, freshman year taking 18 credits both semesters as opposed to 14 and then 16.

Any other Guaranteed Transfers for ILR here? Probably not gonna take the offer at this point but I still plan to drive up for one last visit. Cornell was my number one pick last year but I rather love my current college, tough turning it down. Is there a GT/Accepted Transfer day?

Is East not going to be gracing us with his presence?

^^ i think he’s sticking with emory

miktau, i think more GTs will pop up as it gets closer to the due date for all your forms and stuff. all the GTs i know from freshman admissions are really happy that they came. even though some of them really loved their old schools, they love cornell even more. there’s a general transfer day, but that happened in the fall already. if anything, come up and make an appointment with ian one last time if you want and sit in on classes and stay overnight in the dorms to get a feel for the place.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. I know a few people who would let me crash with them so that shouldn’t be a problem. I would definitely need to stay overnight and sit in on classes before I would make the switch. Guess I’ll have to wait till then to decide.

Cheers,
Mike

I intend to visit in March, sit on a couple three classes, talk to students and just absorb the atmosphere. Any suggestions on how can I to talk to current students including Transfer students during the visit ?

Nope. Deal with it.

bumping this up, no valentines day without a Cornell thread.

@ xd00dx I am freshman, and I took 15 units last quarter, taking 19 units this quarter, and planning to take 17 units…

GAHHHH

Just re-read my post, I meant to say “your sats arent bad, a 2030 is great” apologies if i offended u

Just sent my application in, wish me luck!

Castiel, no offense taken. I knew what you meant.
