@ironicallyunsure: how hard is Cornell, i mean the teachers, classes and such?

@boys: yeah get the dean or someone with access to your records to fill that out

my major is fun, so i really like it. i find the classes really interesting, but there’s a TON of reading. i never did the readings at my old school, but here it’s definitely necessary. they also take a lot longer than i estimated they would, so it eats up a pretty big chunk of time. as for studying, it depends on the teacher, but so far i have 2 classes where knowing things top to bottom is absolutely essential.

then again, i was helping a friend who’s taking gen chem II right now (i took it a year ago, spring 09) and her HW was a million times easier than what i had been assigned

thanks ironic im still not sure if the East is gonna fit me

I read somewhere we have to send in all a.p scores for transfers? Do we do that by calling collegeboard up?

hey y’all, would anyone mind reading my activity essay? tell me if it’s engaging or cliche
(tear it apart if you’d like-i encourage it if need be):
I love children, but they often bring out the worst in me. Asking me embarrassing questions and sticking gum on my clothes, the kids I tutored in high school made me think, “Stay composed; ten dollars an hour is at stake here.” But when my students sailed through exams, I took part in their joy; I helped in shaping that exuberance.
My indulgence in my pupils’ success drew me to my college’s ______________, a program that provided health education classes to high schools with inadequate health education resources. Although the students were older, and the topics taught far more mature (rape and sexual assault), my excitement in impacting others hadn’t changed. Aside from the students’ occasional giggles here and truculent sneers there, teaching was comfortable. Its fixed routine was a pillar to me, assuring me of my merits as a mentor. My qualities were acknowledged every time I was asked a relevant question, and I used my student’s recognition as positive reinforcement in connecting with my students. Teaching ultimately made me into a pillar: a strength others could be confident enough to rely on, even when I sometimes questioned its intensity.

any opinions? sorry i would have made separate thread but i need feed back NOW if it’s cornell-appropriate. ugh ugh ugh procratination!!!

activity essay? What’s an activity essay? the 150 word thing?

yep, its for the CA

@Castiel - Are you given multiple-choice exams for your Biology class?

@melonbread In my opinion, your statement uses a lot of big words, I think that you can cut those down. Use everyday language, it makes it more personal. Plus make your activity more straightforward, you sort put a creative spin on it. That distances it a little and makes it seem like an essay, not statement. Just my 2 cents, I could be wrong.

@cheeky: Yes, we get multiple choice tests for Biology. The professors definetely wouldn’t have time to read 700 essays haha. The tests are brutal (i said that like 500 times but its because it’s true). I hope Cornell is easier!(it won’t be lol, but here’s to hoping)

@Castiel

I’m in the same situation as you. Im in Bio 2 honors at BU and its like 650 kids split between 5 sections and you get lucky to have high 70s low 80s on exams.

lol R324u yeah I think you have it just as bad as I do being in Bio Honors, especially at BU. Isn’t BU notorious for grade deflation?

i’m frm india, looking forward to major in ee/cs

here are my stats

in the top 0.9% of the 400000 odd who wrote the IIT JEE
in the top 0.3% of the 1 mil who wrote AIEEE
straight A+s in my 12th boards

sat 1 - score 2100

currently a freshman,expecting a GPA of 8.0/10 (absolute grading scale,not comparable to the 4 pt US scale) , class rank ~5 /70

have some hacking skills , completed over a 100 challenges in sites like hackthissite.org / hackquest.de

have written an open source internet browser called aeroFox using .NET framework

what are my chances @ cornell?

I didn’t get any of that.

Yea Castiel they are.

…every class average absolutely has to be the cut off between a C+ and B-. Professors are told the average must be that and no more than five percent of the class is allowed to get an A. An example is my environmental science class last semester…class of about 150 students and only 6 got an A. Also teachers make the tests ridiculously hard just so they don’t have to scale grades down, but they curve them up later.

Hi everyone, my friend who study at Cornell told me that school of Hotel Administration is the easiest to get into as freshman. However, he’s not sure about transfer. Does anyone know if it the same for transfer? Thank you very much. He also told me that other students at Cornell look down to students who are transfer students. Is it true? Thanks again.

^^ hotel’s only easy to get into because they’re really big on relevant ECs. that said, they still want high grades and all that good stuff. for transfers they want to see even more relevant ECs.

Application has been submitted! YES! Wish me a good luck, and GOOD LUCK TO YOU GUYS! I don’t know if i will get in, but WHO KNOWS?! :D

Nice job Luckeyg, good luck to you. I think I’ll hold mine till March 5-6th ish.

Ouch r324u, that sounds really harsh…I honestly dont know why schools have grade deflation, shouldn’t they be promoting high GPA’s?

and lol at RileyJohn

When do we have to turn in our midterm reports by?
I see that everyone else is also having trouble in their bio class =/ I wanna wait for another exam before I ask my professor to fill out the current grade in the class form. Does this have to be turned in by March 15th or would it be okay to send it in a little later?
