i’m pleasantly surprised that CALS has no 2nd essay like other colleges do. Yay! But now I realize that I may not have submitted the personal motto essay for CAS when I applied last year…■■■

Cornell is mine! stay away other internationals! lol j/k.
yeah ntmikey i submitted everything except the midterm report which i will send out soon. does anyone know if its okay to fax the mid term report?
And wow april 13th is not that far. I’m so excited. what do you think your chances are ntmikey?

@ melonbread: I hear you man! I’ve spent countless hours teaching classmates how to convert kilometers to meters and plot simple linear graphs! Cornell is my salvation. lol.

@Castiel: I remember the admission rate for intl student in 2009 was 7.9% and I read somewhere that in ILR class of 2012, there are only 7 intl students, so yeah, it’s much much harder.
@chris: dunno man. my rec letters, college official report, midterm report are all good. GPA is okay. But I guess the most important factor is essay… so i dunno.

i’d like to stay on campus too ntmikey. Definitely want to blend into social life and meet people. Cornell doesn’t have something like Berkeley’s I-House, does it?

and yeah april 13th last year was definitely so early, considering they pushed back the deadline to March 31st.

ntmikey: is 7.9% the overall percentage? How abt international admission rate for CALS?

chris0089: yes, you can fax your midterm report to the admission office (607-255-5452).

but wait Chris, doesn’t Cornell practice need blind admissions for intl students too? so applying for aid won’t hurt right? because without aid, i would not apply at first place anyway.

Thanks a lot Hirose!

@ ntmikey: yeah i asked them once and they said admissions is need blind from last year onwards. but financial aid is offered “on a limited basis”. so i guess its not like if u’re accepted they’ll meet all your need. it’s pretty variable imo. and yeah fin aid is a big reason for my applying to cornell as well.

ironic- i could only come up with 500 words each for those two essays. Do you think that would that be enough? Even though I want cornell realllly badly, I guess I am just not very good at bsing lol

@ ntmikey and other community college apps: did any of you apply for the jack kent cooke foundation transfer scholarship?

i thought abt it but there’s no representatives at my school and i dunno how to get nominated.

well at least the results come out after my hardest midterms, so i won’t feel like i got eviscerated by a rejection/WL during my exams. now that i think about it, if i do somehow get into cornell, i might not go till the year after because paying out of pocket is going to be GGGDFHBD expensive. And i really don’t want to do it unless it’s for the very best school i can get into (aka childhood dream/love columbia), b/c i would then be paying for 3 years of private school as opposed to two. ugh i hate being so poor and international, everything becomes 1000x harder. can’t get a decent job, no fafsa, animosity…i can’t even get a state ID =( if it wasn’t for the international thing i would be a lot happier even if i wasn’t able to transfer.

why u dont have state ID?
i’m international student and I have both CA ID and driver license. Being intl student means u need to work harder and people will respect u :P

If I am rejected, what sadden me the most is that after so many works were done (preparing documents, ask for LOR, essays, midterm report…), the gain is null. :(

To boysdontcry, I’m from Uzbekistan. And I need a great aid. And I really think that in a great disadvantage, though I have a unique idea that will soon apply and that hope will help get me in.

To ntmikey, Are you int transfer applicant? Where are the facts from?

To HiroseAki, i either thought about this. i’m appending a great effort to write a convincing essay. And Cornell is my dream!!!

dang my heart goes out to you internationals, hopefully you all get in!

and cornell is need blind to international transfer? are you sure?

Is it just me or has Cornell not gotten back to anybody (if you’re missing stuff), in other words, they haven’t begun the review yet.

well obviously, things in ny are different. you cannot have a state id unless you are a perm. resident at the very least, and a lot of the smaller banks will not let you open up accounts. you also can’t get a driver’s license in ny without a greencard. things tend to be more lenient in CA with regards to internationals/illegal immigrants. if you were in most other states nt, you would have neither a license nor a state id. consider yourself lucky. and people will acknowledge your achievements once you get a greencard, not when you’re international.

Castiel, nope. Cornell is need-aware, though they say in web-site that if an international is admitted, they will meet his full need. Paradoxically, right?

melonbread, wait. If I have gained a driver license in my home country then I’m not allowed to drive a vehicle in the US with it?

I thought it was need-blind according to their website. I just sent them an email yesterday to ask abt this too
