I've sent my Common App in for EDII and now I'm sending in all of my financial aid forms in now too.

I've done the CSS and had it sent and will be doing FAFSA as soon as it gets out. I already sent in the Smith Aid Application for Traditional Students (+ the non-filer form because I don't have a job). Now I need to get the tax returns for 2009 together.

Smith's website says "Tax Returns - Signed copies of parents' and student's most recent federal income tax returns, including all schedules and W-2's". My mother said that she read somewhere (she says she thought she saw it on the CSSProfile site of all places) that we shouldn't send in our 2009 tax returns until we are ASKED for them. I told her that it sounded wrong because Smith's site says nothing of the sort.

EDI people what did you do? Current Smithies/parents of Smithies does this sound right?

For the most accurate answer, the best thing to do would be to call Student Financial Services at Smith (they’re open during the holidays, and probably quieter so now might be a good time), but I would follow the instructions on the Smith website.

Your mom may have very well read what she read, but when Smith says “send copies of the tax returns” that basically amounts to them asking for the returns, so in a way you are both right. They are asking you to send the returns by making that a condition of the financial aid process. If a school didn’t specifically tell you to send the returns, that would be one thing, but they clearly did in this case. They need the tax returns in order to evaluate your financial aid based on their particular institutional formula (and to confirm that what you put on your other financial forms is accurate), so you should send them.

hi!
I am an international student and I am applying for financial aid to Smith.
Does anyone know to wich E-mail address I should send the international student financial aid application and all the required forms ???

I remember the Profile as the single most annoying form in the application process. If your family finances are anything other than pure vanilla—two parents still living together with salaried jobs providing wages reported on a W-2—it was like a toothache. I didn’t see how the Student could be expected to fill it out herself.

The good news is that it’s excellent training for filling out IRS tax forms.

Houdada, you need to contact Student Financial Services if you can’t find the answer online. For US citizens, almost everything is submitted online, through the CSS Profile and the FAFSA. Is there a similar online form for internationals?

Hi I’m an international student too and have the same problem with sending my financial aid application ( I don’t know where to send them)
I’ve already send an e-mail to Student Financial Services but they haven’t answered yet… :(
