Applying for Junior Year. Only One School. Just Received SSAT Scores. Chances?

Hi, I know I'm coming a little late into the game by applying as a Sophomore but I really feel this is the best way for me to do my best and learn the most.

I'm applying to the Taft School, that's it. My current school is good but small and has a limited amount of courses and sports. So... Chance me? :)

SSAT: 91%
Grades: A's and B's (See Courses Below)
Recommendations: Hopefully good. I'm getting A's in both English and Math
Essays: Good
Activities: Musical theater (I have a lead in the school musical/have been going to performing arts camp for 3 years), Varsity Cross Country (4 years), Varsity Cross Country caption as a sophomore, Varsity Softball (team made it to New England's and is 3rd in our league), 4 years of community service every weekend, Aerial Acrobatics (tons of different acts!).
Courses:
AP Modern Euro
Honors Bio
Honors Chem
Honors English 10
Honors Algebra 2
Spanish 2 (but had three years of Latin previously)
Ethnicity: White
Sex: Female
Age: 15

Chance me :D

Someone? Please?

so many kids have good grades in honors class and good ssats.
what makes you stand out from the crowd?

Did you read my interests and etc.?

Not only do I do a lot (community service, cross country, softball, theater, circus) but I enjoy it. Although I do well in most of them (I was the Varsity Captain for cross country, named a league all star in 8th grade, and get leads in musicals etc.), it’s that I truly love what I do that keeps me coming back.

Out of every kid applying, I will get the most out of this experience in every aspect. I’m going to take the interesting, challenging classes because I simply enjoy learning. I’m going to love competing in a more competitive sports league and having the chance to try sports, such as rowing and track, that I’ve always wanted to try. Socially I’ll benefit and develop life long relationships similar to the ones I gain in my three months away from home each summer.

Anyone else :)

your course load should have a positive influence on your application,
as not many students take ap euro sophomore year.

it’s too late to say this now, but youre young for your grade,
have you considered applying as a repeat sophomore? perhaps you shouldve considered applying to 4-5 schools; i’m sure you already know this, but acceptance as a junior is very difficult. applying as a sophomore is something entirely different.

however, it’s not for me to decide,
or anyone on this forum (except perhaps GemmaV, but thats only if youre applying to Hogwarts  )
dont worry about it now,
your done with applications and at this point all you can do is wait.

good luck!

I’m actually the right age for my grade as far as I know. A 15 year old sophomore turning 16 in June. I will be 16 for junior year

You are pretty average for a GOOD candidate but hopefully your interviews make/made you stand out. Overall good shot just wait and see. Time will tell ( I speak as a hypocrite…time is unbearable  )

not for prep schools you will be one of the youngest in your grade
i am 16 and i have been for 7 months and im a sophomore and i didn’t repeat. in junior most kids will be 17 and some will be 18 by winter.

every kid says this it super generic otherwise why would you leave your school. Im sorry burst your bubble but being named an all-star in eight-grader come on, are you serious. i’m sorry but coaches will not be impressed like all-state team player, highly ranked club team , ETC. you are sayign what everyone else says you need a different point of view then what you have they get hundreds of applicants just like you.

P.S. I’m one of those too(apparently so is everyone :))

yes everyone is basically a carbon copy of everyone else but you need to add your own twist. even if it is small like i live in a city so i emphasized how much i want to be around nature and such and experiencing the outdoors

I like the carbon copy analogy…creative…something that should be shared around a Harkness Table per se…Hehe:)

I currently attend a prep school and I am directly in the middle of the age range in my class. So you’re incorrect. 15 turning 16 is the age of most Sophomores.

To be honest, I think being named a New England All-star for VARSITY cross country as an 8th grader (take note of the word VARSITY meaning I race against kids much older than me) is kind of impressive along with being the girls VARSITY captain as a Sophomore.

Like I said, I go to a good school. One of the better day schools around here. It’s just too small. The other kids applying still have requirements to fill while I do not. The reason I am applying is so I can take the more interesting and challenging courses that my current school can’t offer.

I doubt any applicants are circus performers who were invited into an elite program and I doubt that every kid has a lead in their school’s musical. I also doubt that every kid has my SSAT scores (actually I know since I’m better than 91% of you).

Carbon copy? I think not.

hehe and im better than 93% of those who take the ssat but most post people on this thread are 98% better than both of us :)

Actually, dear, I wouldn’t be compared to you. I’m 91% better than all 10th graders. We have it a little harder you know (;

dont get your knickers in a twist if you want to compare athletics i will destroy you please lets not go there
oh and i have an 97%
awkward
i know a good portion of the choate 11th grade and most juniors are 17 you are normal of public school.

Calm down yall
They are just trying to help even if it does sound harsh, but they are right although the circus and xc might help you stand out, you are still an average applicant, but who are we to judge, CC makes us biased…Good Luck :D

According to my school enb would be a little on the young side but near the middle…

No need to compare grades, we all take the same test…

Im a sophmore to by the way and I am definatly very young for the grade

yea haha come feel the love at hcos’ post its gettin heated!

Taft (along with most schools) look for the all around person. Just being good at athletics wont cut it. At least I have more interests than just school and athletics. Not only that, but I’m good at them (; .

Hcos, you sound like a babe. Faceboob?

Im sorry you feel threatened but no need to start insulting people.

There I got again, not keeping my mouth shut…
