Applying from abroad

Hi all.
I need to ask few questions about admissions. Maybe one of you has applied from abroad. I don’t live in usa, either a citizen of usa. Read from the website of USAFA, that international students have to apply through the Department of Defence of their country. Why is this needed and how should this process look like?
Let’s say, i have already applied. What is the next step? Do they call you there for examination? I mean, how many times i should have to go there(to usa:P) during the applying process.
That’s all for now… I really couldn’t find this information from their web.

Thanks,
Laur

If you're not a citizen you can't go to USAFA. The only other way is to work through the international exchange for your country.

falconhopeful06, what do you mean with working through the international exchange for my country? Is this some kind of program, or do you mean the green card? I really haven't heard anything about that...

thanks,
L

You have to go through your country's air force. They are given the slots the amount of slots are controlled. You will apply and compete against your fellow country men and woman. Each country is given slots based on factors that you can control. These slots are few and far between not every country even has slots here. It is a great honor to be selected.

do you mean "Can't control"? I dont think that a person has much control over how many slots a country gets.

But this i think has to be a first here at CC - an international student applying.

Yes "Can't control" My error...typo on this touchy laptop

Layr -- there is a list of countries in the academy admissions website (<a href="http://www.academyadmissions.com%5B/url%5D">www.academyadmissions.com</a>) who have the exchange program with the USAFA. But, as has been said, you cannot go directly to the USAFA without citizenship. Best of luck!

Yes, it is a great honor to be selected.
But anyway... if i find my country from the list, i'll have to contact my country's AF. But there's one thing, i didn't get - do i have to be us citizen, or not(i mean for studying). You have to be a citizen, to serve in US Air Force, but is it necessary to study in academy?

L

No, you have be a citizen of the country that sends you. Then you go back to your home and serve in your home country's air force.

But if i become united states's citizen, then i could serve in us' air force (i have read something about that..). Although i know that my chances are near to zero, so it's not an important topic. But i'll have a try anyway.

I have a quick question - how can i contact USAFA? I don't know if it's my connection's failure, but i can't connect <a href="http://www.usafa.af.mil/%5B/url%5D">http://www.usafa.af.mil/</a> and the contact mail address is on that server.

If things are the same as requirements for USNA, you must be a U.S. citizen before you report on I-Day (Reporting Day).

Maybe, but this page - <a href="http://www.academyadmissions.com/admissions/howtoapply/international.php%5B/url%5D">http://www.academyadmissions.com/admissions/howtoapply/international.php</a> - says that i have to apply through the ministry of defense of my country. But i'm not sure and have a few more questions, so i tried to e-mail to the academy, but their server is down or something.
