Is applying for all the service academies unusual? It’s been my plan from the start, but as I’m dealing with NASS/AIM/SLS applications I’m seeing a lot of people stick to their favorite or maybe an alternate. Any former cadets/mids apply to 3 or more? Any candidates currently dealing with hearing back from them all?

So you don't have a preference yet on which academy?

I think its fairly normal. All my friends from high school who are at air force applied to all the other service academies. Its actually encouraged to apply to multiple academies.

i wouldnt apply if you don't have interest. of course i know plenty who applied to 2 or more, but i personally dont see the point. if you have a preference, only apply to the one you'd like. if not, apply to more.. i personally had no desire to go into the navy or army, so i only applied to AF

Well airforce16, I've always thought I'd like USAFA or USNA but I don't want to rule USMA and USCGA out. I've only visited USNA so I really think I need to visit the others. I read someone else's post on another thread that "visiting is the best way to get that gut feeling" and I sort of know what he means.

I do want to be a pilot, but more than that I want to be serving my country as an officer. Hopefully I'll have the "problem" of choosing the right academy in the next year ;)

Having many options open always is a good "problem." :) Another consideration, you said you want to be an officer first? If you don't get pilot, which service could you work for? Would you be willing to be on a ship with the navy, maybe lead infantry in the desert with the army, or work intel in the AF? Investigate those options as well.

As others have said, having lots of options is a good thing. Apply to all the Academies if you don't have a preference yet. All the admissions officers I have talked to have advised me to apply to more than one Academy.

That being said, I only applied to USNA.

I applied to AF, N, and CG, but AF is my first choice. The downside to applying to the others is that now I have my blue and gold officer form the naval academy trying to get me to go there. But think about it this way. If you dont get into the AF, then do you still want the chance of getting into one of the others as another resort?

Ok I was just curious, and youre right that visiting the academy will be a big deciding factor... Haha I havent visited USAFA but have already punched my ticket, I dont see myself anywhere else though... ;)

I applied to USAFA and USNA but after getting a nom from one senator to USAFA the other one sent a letter saying good luck at getting an appt to USAFA and that he wanted to use his noms on the guys that "specified" USNA, I say that because if you truly have not made up your mind, youre gonna wanna take that into consideration when ranking the academy's by preference when applying for noms...

Good luck bud... ;)
