Applying from the UK

Hello,

I am currently doing my first year of a degree in the UK, but have realised that it was probably a mistake to pick a British university over those I got into in the states. I'm originally British but I am a permanent resident of the states and have lived there for most of my life.

I'm hoping to transfer out into my second year of a US degree in the fall 2007 - I was just wondering if anyone knew anyone else who had done something similar or had any advice or comments on whether I would be a fairly competitive applicant as a transfer for the following schools: College of William & Mary, Georgetown, UVA, Yale, Cornell, Dartmouth, Brown, Amherst, Williams, NYU, Stanford.

William and Mary are just opening up my application from last year (accepted).

I graduated in June with a 4.1 GPA (weighted - about 3.98 uw - one B in 9th grade) with an advanced studies diploma.
SAT: 2260 (800 verbal/ 790 writing / 670 math)
SAT IIs: French - 760, Lit - 750, US History - 720, World History - 720
APs: French - 5, Lit - 5, US History - 5, US Gov - 4 (self studied)
(ACT: 31 )

I have quite a few activities going on at university:
- I work as an elementary school TA teaching French
- I tutor GCSE level French one-on-one
- I am about to start volunteering on a reading program which is designed to promote literacy at a young age.
- I am in various societies: Theatre, English, Classics, Debating, etc and am moderately active in them but no leadership positions as of yet.
- I also run a literary magazine which I co-founded several years ago.
- I am a freelance journalist for the university newspaper.
- I am also taking a level 1 Portuguese evening class and am preparing for a level 1 certificate in the language.
- I also attend a voluntary lecture program on Romanticism set up by the university Lit department.
- I am possibly about to begin volunteering to work with 'Rainbows' - the younger version of Girl Scouts once a week, pending time constraints.

I am taking five 'modules' that run year-long, one of which is a 'double' class.

I did various other activities in high school; Beta Club, academic clubs, French Honor Society President etc. I've had various awards/honors: valedictorian, National Latin exams, national honor role, academic awards etc.

I know that transfer places are insanely hard to get, and that the fact that my modules don't immediately match up with semester courses will probably be a bit of a stumbling block. In light of the competitive nature of top university transfer admissions, is it going to be impossible at the schools listed in any of your opinions?

I really don't have much experience with transfer applications. I was hoping never to feel dissatisfied with my academic life.

Any help/advice etc would be wonderful.

Thanks!
