Hello,

I am currently doing my first year at university in the UK and I am transferring back to the US for this fall, hopefully.

I am leaving my current institution because of a myriad of reasons including: autodidactic (and thus lonely) degree with basically no contact time from faculty busy with research - i.e. no undergraduate emphasis, social issues (huge binge drinking problems), and strict UK degree in one subject which I wasn't as prepared for as I thought, and also lack of relavent activities in media/literary publications which is what I am most interested in; the list goes on and on.

My stats are as follows...

Advanced diploma at VA public high school, graduated in June.
GPA: 4.1, valedictorian
SAT I: 2260 (800v, 790w, 670m)
SAT II: French 760, Lit 750, World History 720, US History 720
(ACT: 31)
ECs in high school: President of French Honours Society, member of various clubs, volunteering, started up and continue to co-edit an online small press literary magazine
Awards: General Science fair awards, National Honor Roll student, National Society of High School Scholars, High school awards in US History, and Literature, National Latin Exam Level 1 and 2 gold (perfect paper in Level 1)
APs: English 5, French 5, US History 5, US government 4 (self-studied)

At university here I am doing a degree in Combined Arts, so my classes include:
Double Latin
Introduction to Drama
Introduction to the Novel
Moments and Memory in the Age of Augustus (Classics and Ancient History)
Sound Text and Image: A History of the Arts (Mandatory)

These are all year-long courses.

I am very involved in the university Student Community Action program. I teach 10-11 year olds French weekly at a local elementary school, and am a registered tutor in Latin, English and French. I am involved in the beginnings of a program to increase literacy in elementary schools via reading groups. I am also a member of various societies: theatre, and academic specific ones. I am a voluntary writer for the university newspaper, but it's all a bit haphazard.

Basically, I am looking for suggestions for colleges based on the few key things I am looking for and whether the suggested colleges would be a significant reach/match/safety etc.

I am definitely applying to William and Mary and UVA as they are both instate for me, and I was accepted to both last year.

I would like to avoid extensive GERs (or GERs in general, if possible), so I am particularly interested in Amherst and Brown. Does anyone else know of any others without GERS or with limited GERs?

I am basically open to any and all suggestions. I would rather not go to a HUGE school; I'd rather be a person than a number, which is a primary concern here. I would also like faculty you can get to know most of the time, versus them never knowing one face from the other.

Any help/advice/suggestions is most welcome and greatly appreciated!
