Is is a good idea to attempt to apply late? I sent my scores and transcripts before the deadline, however I decided not to apply as it was pretty expensive. I hear that applying late is just a trap to collect your app fee and throw it in the garbage, as they believe you probably won’t attend anyway. So I ask: has anyone gotten in to RPI after the deadline “extension”? Is it a good idea to shoot my shot?
I have never heard of anyone who got accepted by applying after the deadline… I believe it’s not because they think you won’t attend or something like that, but rather because it would be simply unfair to accept your application after the deadline. Unfortunately I don’t think there’s a shot to shoot in this case.
So even though they tell you it’s an extension until the 15th of February, it’s not a true extension?
What exactly did they mention? If they truly extended the application period, then you should definetely apply! Be aware though and check if the extension isn’t just for missing documents or something like that. Good luck!
Extensions are not a trap to collect your money, for sure!
Subject: Extending your deadline
"waterlaw, you have the opportunity to attend a world-class university next fall. Simply apply to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

You may also use the Common Application or the Universal College Application to apply to Rensselaer today. We treat all of these applications equally when considering you for admission, and you will receive the same benefits with each, including automatic consideration for merit scholarships.
However you choose to apply, we are eager to hear from you soon!"
I want to apply but I don’t want to be a guaranteed reject because I applied after Jan 15…
I believe that they said they extended the deadline because of weather… at least I remember them sending out a notice like that. My daughter had applied (and was accepted) ED 1, but we nevertheless seemed to be updated as to extensions. The wording they use may seem like a “trap” or “come on”; but, that is basically the wording they always use for e-mails. If you want to apply, you should.
From what I understand, they have indeed extended the deadline. Therefore, as @TooDrew mentioned, apply if you want to! It’s definetely not a trap, or a means of simply collecting your money…
No trap, just increasing the size of the applicant pool. I think you have as good a chance now as you would have three months ago (assuming you didn’t apply ED). Good luck. RPI is a great school.
I am in a similar situation…I applied for the accelerated medical program on the common app on November 6th. Only a few days ago did I realize that this was past the deadline of November 1st. I had not researched RPI’s programs before applying, so when the common app asked me to choose a major, I chose the accelerated track without looking into it. Usually with others (such as UMiami), if the deadline passed the choice would no longer be available, so I did not think of checking to see if it has expired. Would I still be considered for regular admission? I doubt I will be considered for the accelerated program but you never know…
