So I'm wondering, do you think there's an advantage to submitting an application to a school (or schools) in October if the deadline is Jan 1? If the essays are complete, no more testing to do, is there a reason to wait? Maybe the adcoms will look at the application earlier in the process?

If everything are ready, the earlier the better.

The earlier the better. There is a finite amount if financial aid - once it is gone, it is gone.

Sometimes, schools will read those applications and give you an early answer. That was the case with one of the schools my son applied to. He sent it in in early November. The deadline was February 1. By the end of December, he not only gained admittance, but got word that he had a full tuition scholarship. So early can be a good thing.

D had similar results with sending in RD appl early. She sent in her appl to an OOS Uni mid to late November – received an acceptance w/ nice merit scholarship within 3-4 weeks. By the appl deadline date, she had received 2 additional letters each significantly increasing the merit scholarship amount.

I have a similar question.
What about EA or RD for top schools?

The earlier the better but most times the highschool will send out the information close the reported deadline (teacher and guidance recs, and other necessary info).

I guess I was just wondering if apps are read on a first-come first-serve basis. In theory, if a school has no supplement, then the common app might as well go out when the essay and such are complete, right?
