I had some rather dismal results in trying to bag an internship during my fall career fair. Considering my GPA, I (rather naively) expected to receive a number of offers from the large companies I was interested in - not offers on internships necessarily, but at least offers for interviews. But I received neither. In hindsight, I should have spent less time speaking with recruiters with the specific companies I was interested in at the fair and spent more time handing out resumes to anyone who would take them.

At this point, I feel that i've missed out on most of the opportunities that were available in the fall. On some advice from a friend, i'm planning to try submitting my resume online to a wide array of companies in order to possibly get an internship that way, or at least some interviews. I've never done this and am looking for advice on the best way to go about it. Many of the career sections on company websites that i've checked simply have a job search function on their site with no internship positions publicly listed. Honeywell is a good example. (I'm majoring in Mechanical Engineering BTW)

Is it probably a lost cause trying to apply for an internship online if the company isn't openly listing internship positions on their job postings? (ignoring the other complications of actually finding a recruiter to send one's resume to)

Has anyone had luck finding an internship with job search sites such as Monster? I know these are widely used for full time positions, but i'm not sure what the scoop is on internships.
