Applying online

Can applying online to an ivy league hurt your chances of getting in?

No.
In fact I believe most schools encourage you to apply online, because you can pay you fee by credit card and it's easier to look up your information. But you are not at any advantage or disadvantage for applying online.

If you send in the paper application, can you still check the status of your app. online?

That sounds like a question for the Admissions Office.

I applied to Harvard by paper, and they sent me a letter when they had received my common application. I could check online whether they had received my test scores yet, but if I remember correctly, not whether my application was complete or whether the other parts had arrived. I would imagine it's the same for online applications.

If I remember correctly . . .

After we applied (both online, and by paper), they mailed us our applicant number and gave us a website that would tell us what parts of our application they had recieved. Regardless, though, they eventually send you a postcard telling you that your application is complete, or listing what it's missing.
