Applying SCEA--when to send RD applications to other private colleges?

For students applying to one of the Single-Choice Early Action schools, is any time okay to send in Regular Decision applications to other private, U.S., non-rolling admissions colleges? Assuming all the testing is done and that grades, awards, etc., are unlikely to change in the next few months, sending at least some of the other applications in now would seem to make sense (so there isn't as much to do over Christmas break if the SCEA school doesn't work out or if financial aid is a consideration)--maybe to just the schools the student would consider along with the first-choice SCEA school to compare financial aid offers?

I think you can send it in any time as long as you mark it RD. The colleges won’t even look at it until they are done with their own EA/ED apps.

Correct. You can send them in anytime, but it is unlikely to even be looked at until the EA/ED round is complete.

One of the benefits of EA or SCEA or ED is to be able to wait before applying to others. You save money and time. By all means, have them ready to send in – just wait until you hear back from your EA school. There’s no great benefit to getting them in now unless they make you eligible for better scholarships.

Thanks, everyone. I guess the benefit would be that they’d be done, especially if you know you’re going to apply to a few others anyway to compare aid offers. But it definitely makes sense not to apply now to the places you wouldn’t apply to if you got into the SCEA school–those should probably wait until after the decision arrives.
