Applying simultaneously in Early Decision and Early Action Colleges

Can one apply to more than one colleges in the early deadline if one college has a binding agreement and the others have non-binding agreements?

Yes, so long as the EA school isn’t Single Choice Early Action or Restrictive Early Action in which case you’ll need to look into the specific school’s policy.

okay, thanks!!

You have to read the rules for each college. From what I’ve seen in the past, ED schools don’t tend to make restrictions as to applying to ANY other colleges as long as you don’t apply to another ED school. The very definition of ED is such that you have to drop the other schools if accepted, so two ED apps out there is not permitted. But it’s the EA schools that sometimes impose restrictions. Single CHoice EA or Restricive EA or whatever a school calls it, often will not permit another restricted EA app to be in the mix or any, for that matter, or have conditions which you have to check out carefully, or any EDs, or no restrictions at all. You have to read and check each school’s rules as they can change from one year to another, and some of these application names get changed so you can’t just go by the title but have to read the terms of each application.

^^Exactly. I know of no ED school that’s places restrictions on any other applications other than other ED applications. (If anyone does, please let us know.) Those are pretty simply to explain, only one ED school per ED round, so you can do ED1, then ED2 if ED1 doesn’t accept you.

It’s EA that gets tricky, so always look to the school website to see if your EA school place restrictions in any way on your other applications. There aren’t many who do place restrictions, but the ones that do tend to be pretty popular elite schools. If in doubt, just call them and ask, they’ll be more than happy to clarify anything.

Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, and Tulane have SCEA/REA. Note that Tulane offers both EA and SCEA.

Exact details and exceptions vary; Tulane’s SCEA policy is the most restrictive.

I believe Georgetown and BC also have some restrictions attached to their EA. Neither allow you to apply to ED schools if applying there EA.
