Applying to college early?

I went to the Columbia site and read their Q&A. This one really interested me:

"Does Columbia allow early admission for high school juniors?

Early admission is occasionally granted to students of special promise who are completing the junior year of secondary/high school and who meet the following requirements:

maintained an outstanding academic record in their secondary schools;

have the physical, intellectual and emotional maturity to handle the rigorous program at Columbia;

have the full endorsement of their secondary/high schools.

Applicants for early admission should follow the normal procedure in applying, but should indicate they are applying for early admission under the “Additional Information” section of the online Application for Admission."

Is it true that you can apply as a Junior? If you get in can you attend without going through Senior year? All help is welcome.

yup, Columbia2002 said he/she did this, do you really dislike your high school this much?

its even on the FIRST PAGE of the main columbia board

Yeah I didn't notice before, sorry. Do you know if there are any other good colleges (ivy) that allow this?

Seriously. Senior year of high school is something you will never have again. Enjoy it.

Maybe, but do you know of any other colleges that let applicants do this?

Most colleges will let you do this (I did it myself at most of the ivies + other competitive colleges). HOWEVER, unless your profile is truly amazing, I doubt you will get into the colleges that you will (presumably) gain admittance to as a senior. I felt that I had a fairly compelling case to leave high school early and was able to present a highly competitive profile, but I was not accepted anywhere as a junior. While it is true that the "worst" college that I applied to was Tufts, I should have been able to get into several of the colleges that I applied to (popular consensus of guidance couselor, teachers, etc).

The truth is, colleges do not want to accept juniors when they can take their pick of the nation's leading high school seniors and can afford to evaluate you again when you are a senior.

I know a number of people -- both at my HS and elsewhere -- who have went to college after 3 years of college. In some cases, your junior year is basically your senior year, and you essentially skip 11th grade.

Thanks for all the responses! Are there any particular courses you need to take to be able to able to apply this way?

nvm. wrong thread. :)
