Applying To Colleges in Multiple Countries (Australia, UK, US)

Hey guys,

I'm going to apply to univesities in multiple countries, but how does one go about doing this seeing as they all have different acceptance and reply dates in which you have to say you're going to the school? I've tried looking around, but there doesn't seem to be an information on this.

Hmmm- I applied to US and UK. I’m from India, so there was no admission process I had to go through for Indian colleges (based on final year exams). I believe UK’s results come out a lot sooner (if you apply early) and you only need respond by June, while US you have a month, between Apr and May1 to reply. So depending on your offers- you respond.
Moreover, while you can’t send deposits to two colleges in the US simultaneously, I suppose (though i don’t really know), you could accept an offer in US and Uk, then see which works out.

Hohoho:

I applied to the US, UK, Lebanon, Egypt, Netherlands, HK, Germany, Ireland and Switzerland and everything is working out nicely.

Point is: Colleges in most countries don’t really have a fixed reply date, and if they do it’s some time in July. The countries who expect you to reply fast are the US and some commonwealth countries and they both usually expect an answer only by May 1st.

If you still need a descision by then you could mail the missing college and tell them that you will need their answer or won’t be able to consider them. If they are interested in you they will comply or at least send you a likely-letter or sth. Alternatively you could make up some excuse to get an extension on the reply-deadline.

Hey everyone,

Is it true that if you have been given a conditional offer from a UK school and an acceptance from a US school, you must decide between the two by May 1st (the US response deadline)? Is it possible to choose the US school by May 1st, wait until July when the exam results are released to see if I meet the conditional offer from the UK school, and if I did meet the offer, drop the US school and just go the UK school?

I don’t know if it is allowed, but I would honestly just go ahead and accept both offers. I might even make up a fake reason for the late change of mind: “Due to unforeseen changes in my family’s financial situation, I will be unable to attend your wonderful university. Taking a semester off to work and then applying to universities in my home country seems to be the best option given my current budget.” It’s not like they can tell that you are lying, and they certainly won’t force you to attend if you are unable to pay the bill ;)

Just in response to the OP’s topic, I’ll be applying for all three countries. Are you an Australian citizen or are you taking the VCE/HSC/IB? If so, you can just apply directly to the universities and defer your offer. You could also enrol for a semester and drop out if you plan to go to the UK or US.

Where are you applying, by the way?
