Applying to colleges not in local area

Hi, if I lived in the northeast and applied to a college not well represented by the northeast such as vanderbilt or rice, does this increase your chances of acceptance? I know colleges want a diverse population, so if your state is barely represented, does this increase chances?

Thanks

Check the CDS to see if “geographic origin” is considered.

@TomSrOfBoston sorry for asking but what does CDS stand for

Google name of school common data set.

I don’t think that’ll help you much, especially at schools like Vandy and Rice

Being from New York might not help much, but being from less populated states like Maine or Vermont might give you a slight bump at schools like Vandy and Rice.
