Applying to just one school?

Hi all,

I'm almost sure that I want to go to UW-Madison, and I'm fairly positive that I will get in. I plan on applying early, so I should find out whether I get in or not within a few weeks of my application--around mid October or so. I feel that applying to other schools would end up being a waste of my time because I won't have the motivation to write stellar essays and I probably won't even end up attending. Does anyone here have any insight that could inform me of the dangers/advantages to just applying to one school?

Thanks,
J

Are you also applying for financial aid? Will your parents be able to cover the entire cost of the college? Applying to multiple colleges allow you to compare financial aid packages. If that is not an issue for you, apply early to UW-Madison and enjoy your senior year while your classmates stress. If you don’t have other “dream schools” and you are going to be happy there, then why put the extra stress on yourself? The biggest question is, are you absolutely sure that your can get in?

Unless UW changes their in-state tuition, my family should be able to comfortably cover the cost. My ACT is above the 75% percentile and my GPA and ACT score is above the average honors student, so I’m fairly positive I can get in. They have a chart which shows that students with my GPA and ACT score have a 95% acceptance rate

I know someone who did just that and was very happy.

I think this option is fine if you could still apply to your second/third/fourth choice schools if things turned out unexpectedly.

You might think about applying to the University of Minnesota too. The application is easy (no long essay), the school is solid, and you’d pay cheap reciprocity tuition. That way you at least have one more option.

my friend did this at wake forest…she was sure shed get in and sure she really wanted to go there. she got in early and was thrilled and loved it there. go for it if youre sure!
