Hi. I applied and got accepted in the faculty of science into the major of Biology, Biomedical and Life Sciences. At the time I applied, Microbiolgy wasn't listed in the faculty of science but now that it is, how can I apply for it? Can I minor in it? Also, can I concentrate on Molecular Genetics in the major I've chosen? Thanks for your help.

I think you might be a little confused; the Biology, Biomed and Life Sci isn’t actually your major, it’s just the program you enter into, and you can pick your major later from within that grouping (Bio, Anatomy, Physiology, etc). If you’re entering into U0, you won’t be picking your major until after your first year.

Microbio has limited enrollment and a higher admission requirement than the rest of science. According to their website, there’s an additional application form to fill in (you usually can just choose your major online through Minerva), but it was due by the third Monday in April so it might be too late now. Again, if you’re entering as U0, then you wouldn’t be selecting your major until next year anyways so this doesn’t matter to you. If you go to the McGill website and search ‘Microbiology and Immunology’, you’ll find their website for more info (I would post the link, but I’ve been told that that’s not allowed…) There’s no minor in it, but you can probably take some of the classes as electives if you really wanted to.

Within Biology (ie if you choose to major in Biology), there’s a Molecular Genetics and Development concentration. It won’t show up on your transcript or anything like that, but its a guide of what classes to take if you’re interested in the subject, which you seem to be.
