I'm a freshman at the University of Vermont, currently a Microbiology/Spanish major. I'm looking to transfer to McGill for the Fall of 2010. I just finished my first semester at UVM with a GPA of 3.6. The only thing bringing me down was a Political Science class I ended up getting a B in. I got A's in both chem and math. I'm looking for advice on which science major to try to transfer to based on my grades and situation. What is the least competitive science major? I heard Microbiology/Immunology is a "limited enrolment programme". Should I apply Psych, Bio? Any idea's?

Do I have to submit SAT's as a transfer student?

Does AP Bio meet one of the semesters of required science?

Thanks!

I’m not sure how it works for transfer students, but from what I recall McGill recently re-did their B.Sc. admissions and split them into separate sections (eg. lifesicences are separate from from math/physics/cs).

For domestic (Quebec) students Microbio/Immunology has the highest entrance average out of any B.Sc. major as far as I know.

I’m in a different field, but I know several people who finished the Honours version of the program and they all did very well after (MD or PhD program). It’s a lot of work but a very strong program at McGill.

Thanks for the reply. Do you know anything about majoring in biological sciences in the faculty of agriculture? I found this on their website. It looks like I could specialize in Micro. What are the differences between these two programmes? What else should someone interested in public health major in at McGill?

I don’t know much about the program specifically, but Faculty of Agriculture majors are not on the downtown campus, but rather at the Macdonald campus which is out in the suburbs and about a 45 minute shuttle bus ride away from downtown (there’s a shuttle bus that goes directly between the two campuses). I don’t know if this would affect your decision, but it’s definitely something to consider.

Thanks! Does anyone have any more information on the faculty of science at McGill?
