I'm applying to prep school and just took the SSAT on Saturday November 13, 2004 and have scheduled my interviews throughout the month of November. Anybody else out there applying too??? I'm so excited!!!

I'm applying if I can make it through these applications! I can't believe how hard it is. Had my first interview at Choate last week. It's hard to get in, so I'm not counting on it. Where are you applying? Do you have good safties?

I am applying to Exeter, St. Paul's, Andover, Deerfield, Choate, and Taft. I have no safeties, I figure its either I'm leaving home for an excellent school or nothing at all.

My list is almost the same except add Hotchkiss and take out Taft. I do want a safety because I really want the prep school life. Lots of really qualified kids from my school were rejected last year. Good GPA, Extras and sports. One had a 99SSAT! What's your choice order? So far mine is St. Paul's (but impossible because it's so small), Exeter, Andover, Deerfield (also tiny and hard), Choate, Hotchkiss. Then I'm considering Governor Dummer and Brooks as a step below.

how old are u kids?

I'm 13. eas, what are you writting your essay on? Are you doing totally different ones for each school or are you going to try to use only one with some changes?

I'm writing basically the same really stand-out excellent essay that will I will modify to fit each subject.

I'm applying to Exeter, Choate, Milton, Andover, Thatcher (in California) and a bunch of safties. I'm so nervous... I have an interview with Choate coming up soon, any advice?

I don't have an interview with Choate until January but I have an interview with Deerfield on Wednesday (day before thanksgiving! may ruin it!). I'm so anxious!!!

It's so cool that there are people like me who are going through the same anxiety and other stuff as me. I know no one who thinks that way where I live. Good luck with your interview!!!!

By the way, does anyone know of the average SSAT scores these schoools want?

My advice is try to have a family friend make some kind of introduction to the school. It will make a difference who you interview with and how the interview may go. deerfield was my toughest interview.the lady said it was a very tough school work wise and very tough to get into. She thnks Deerfield may now be the hardest to get into of all the top schools. good luck to you all! btw, you can get average ssat scores from boarding school review. I got the feeling they use test scores however they want to. If you have something else they want, they will overlook lower scores and they are definitely NOT looking for just grade grubbers that never leave their rooms.

I think all schools tell you that their schools are the hardest to get accepted into. I did pretty good, but I know I can do better on the SSAT. I know people would love to have them, but you know, I wasn't at my top ability and I'm always wondering what it would be if I did my best.

I have a pretty good resume, sports, speech and debate and an art. My GPA wavers from 3.9 to 3.7 at a prestigious private school, so I think I might have a shot at getting in. I do have a life and do not spend all of my time in my room. Good luck, esahopeful95 with your interview with Deerfield! I looked at it, and it didn't really seem right for me, but I'm sure you'll do great.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

zafira, what did you not like about Deerfield, the dress code? I thought it was pretty cool.

I actually like dress codes, though it's not mandatory. I don't know- I know it has great academics and is an awesome fan, it's just that (don't laugh) it didn't really call to me... All the schools that I am applying to (with the exception of Andover which I scatched off the list) gave me images of myself there. Deerfield didn't. I just decided that I might as well save myself time on the essays and let someone else who really wants to go there get the spot I might have gotten.

What schools are you applying to, cubfan? Good luck esahopeful95 tomorrow!!!! I'm rooting for you!

Happy Thanksgiving (again)!

you crazy northeasterners with your prep schools

but seriously, i would recommend Deerfield and Hotchkiss. ive met people from both and they seem like awesome schools. apparently Taft sucks according to them....

Everybody post your stats!!!
p.s. i've decided not to apply to taft to make room for milton

Stats? You mean schools I'm now officially applying to? Well... It's just the list in the earlier thread minus Andover... Man, I must get some sleep.

Oh, lol, tcolgate- Just FYI, I'm from California ;D.

I'm going for Deerfield, St. Paul's, Exeter and maybe Middlesex. Hotchkiss is incredibly beautiful but you have got to draw the linne somewhere. I also liked lawrenceville. esa, i'm like you, no safe schools. ALL OR NOTHING!! lol
p.s., anybody have any comments on Middlesex?

My List of Schools:
Andover
Exeter
St. Paul's
Durham Academy (local day school, really good!!!)
Deerfield
Choate
Taft
Milton
Hotchkiss

I can only choose six, which should I choose???

I can't exactly have you say what schools you should apply for, but I noticed you liked St. Paul's and Exeter, so apply to those. I also noticed you like Deerfield so go for that too. Don't apply to Milton because that's my top choice (;D lol, just kidding, if you want to, do it). Well, what are your fortes, subject wise? Do you like science, math, foreign languages, literature, history, what? I know you want a good school or bust, but I would pick one that you think you have a good shot at.

How'd your interview go? Happy Thanksgiving!

For Milton, are you doing the editorial for the essay question?
