If I apply to a sizable amount of reaches and high reaches(5-10) will my chances of being accepted to at least one of these schools be higher? Or will it not increase my chances because since these schools are similarly selective a rejection at one school will be a rejection at all the other schools as well?
If you find it difficult to understand the question tell me and I will try to reword it.
(I already have my safety schools down so I’m not worried about those I’m primarily asking about reaches and high reaches such as NYU, Northeastern, BU, BC, UofMich, etc. Thank you.
What are your stats? What makes a school a “reach” for you?
Based on the limited amount of info given, I’m guessing that applying to many colleges won’t increase your chances; for one, you probably won’t put much time into each applications and it will reflect on your essays.
I used to think that I should apply to a bunch of reaches, but after spending time on apps, I think you should identify 3 reaches (2 okay reaches, 1 high). Past that number, you’re just probably wasting your time and the quality of your essays would diminish over time. Even with the common app, many selective schools have additional essays. UofM has 3 more!!!
Narrow it down by what you think is most important. Distance, tuition cost, prestige, program quality, AP credit acceptance, likelihood of getting in, etc
Most schools are great with plenty of opportunities if you know how to look anyways, so don’t panic if you have to go to a safety school
