Hey,
Im thinking of doing computer science as a major in college and i was wondering if it was easier to get into schools if i go in undecided then apply to the com sci school after my freshman year. My teacher said that for the bigger schools like penn state and maryland that its easier to get into if you apply later but i wanted confirmation.

What does your guidance counselor say about your area schools? If this does occur, it varies school by school
@justins21 - Computer science (as opposed to computer engineering) is not a Limited Enrollment Program at UMDCP. So, if you apply to UMD with that major and are accepted, then you are in and dont have to worry about doing an internal transfer.
But if you are really interested in going to UMD, you should apply by the Priority deadline (Nov 1). Only the Priority Deadline applicants are considered for Merit scholarships and Special Programs (Honors College, Scholars, etc). Waiting till the RD deadline will take you out of the running for those.
i am applying early but i don’t know if i should do my major or just go undecided and then choose computer science my soph year

It won’t matter. Admissions officers know full well that applicants can choose any major in the school they get accepted into. I’ve heard admission officer say that unless a person is applying to a specific program/school (ex. engineering, business) that they don’t pay attention to the intended major – this is because half of the applicants apply undecided and of half of those who apply with an intended major end up changing it while in college.
